How many forum members have noticed toning on their AGEs?

I've been considering taking my AGEs out of the original capsules and putting them into flips for more compact storage, but I'm a little hesitant to do that if they are susceptible to easy toning from something in their surroundings.
I see numerous AGEs in ebay photos that have peripheral toning. None of mine have developed this toning, and I was curious to see if anyone here on the forum has had AGEs tone while in their possession.
If you have encountered toning on your AGEs, can you trace it to the storage conditions?. Thanks for your comments. jmski

The toning that I see in many ebay auctions is usually on a slabbed AGE, and usually it is a target or peripheral type of orangish yellowing.
I have one 1/2 ozer that I bought in 1989 which has a deeper and very even golden tone - now that's more like it!
I am guessing that all of the toning that I'm seeing on ebay is natural and is probably a reaction of something with the copper, but still - the point is that I don't want toning on my AGEs if I can avoid it.

Well, a quick dip and rinse probably would not hurt but to avoid the toning you would need to seal each slab in plastic with a vegetable sealer sucking all the air out.
I'm not a fan of putting anything on the surface of a coin that shows no problems, so I'd want a definitive explanation for the cause of the toning before I considered removal of a residue that might not even be there.
If a Mint residue has caused that, then it only starts the process when the coins are removed from the capsules? Just askin.
Does anyone else have any first hand experience with this?

Toning is on coins. Tarnish is on silverware. --Jerry

Toning is generally used to compliment aesthetically pleasing typically colorful attractive metal discoloration due to oxides and sulfides, while Tarnish is typically a pejorative term used for visually unattractive metal oxidation that is typically darker and a thicker buildup.

I do with Gold/Silver, including Platinum; what the heck, as they are cheap...cheaper than the alternative!
Never had any toning or spotting with the Intercept Shields.

Pure gold can tone too, I have a pamp suisse 1 gram gold bar that must've had a chemical residue come in contact on the bar during minting and it has oxidized..

Sorry, Not true. Yes I have seen this toning occur in the vac sealed bags as well. I have even tried putting a couple of small bags of desiccant in the bags but to no avail. Some coins do tone, most don't, and every one that has toned has been housed in a pcgs holder. I have not seen this toning with ngc holders and I have not seen this toning in original mint capsules. Not saying it is the holder that causes it as this is just an observation. But it is curious to me nonethless. Anyone else notice this trend? Has anyone else seen gold coin toning occur in anything other than pcgs holdered coins???

I see toning on my 1/10 oz. AGE in PCGS slab in Intercept Track box ... go figure.

All of my AGE were purchased by me directly from the mint, taken from capsule wearing cotton gloves, put into 2x2 Mylar flip and submitted to PCGS myself.

Last night, I transferred (20) of the 1/4 ozer 2006-Ws from their capsules into Saflips.
(2) of them did have toning - in the same area of the field to the left of Liberty, and the toning was the same crescent shape on both. Note - they have all been stored together in an airtight container in the sdb.
I ordered them all directly from the Mint, in two batches of 10. Whatever caused it seems to have been transferred directly from the die. I think that I can make that conclusion.
I will report on the 1/2 ozers after I get them transferred.
