Dies were made for 2009 proofs. The mint announced last week they were destroying them.
Maybe somebody took one obverse die home for safe keeping?

Dies were already made and readied. They are said to be in the process of destroying them.
If one of them escapes destruction...and there are any subtle changes.....then, voila!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Oh geez. That was my first thought too was that there were no 09 proofs.
We all now how the Mint is at destroying things...
Guess we'll all have to look closely for 2009 eagles next year
