Do you pick up pennies or toss them?

tydyetydye Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭
I tend to toss them. My wife would cross the street to pick one up. Sometimes I have a little fun with her and will walk ahead - then I get hit once she figures it out.

And no penny vs cent lectures. Ben Franklin called them pennies so that is good enough for me

I'll always pick any change up that I see. For one it's still money but also I see at a symbol of our country... that's what tends to motivate me to pick up the cents

pick it up! I was out to lunch with a buddy last week and found to dimes on the ground while sitting at our table. I saw another coin under another table but he got his iphone out and threatened to take a picture of me picking up change and post it on my facebook page image I let that one go.

I pick up cents, look at the date, look for errors and varieties, and then if they are worthless I often throw them back on the ground.

    Larger denominations are always kept.

Always...for every cent I pick up, thats one cent closer to my first million.

Now I just need to find about 99,999,900 more of them.
    I'll come up with something.

Both! Pick them up and toss them in my change jar. If they are copper, they go in the copper jar.

I saw a nickel on the ground this weekend, and bent down to pick it up, and there were three pennies near by. I put them in my pocket and then gave them to the Salvation Army bell ringer later in the day.

always pick them up.I average about 100.00 a year. This year I have found many wheat cents in the 30 s and the 50 s some red!!
  • I just wonder when people became so affluent they could afford to throw money away. When I was a wee little melvin289 one could get 2 MaryJanes (peanut butter candy) for 1¢.

I think it's a generational thing. Old folks like me pick them up while young folks don't bother. How many of you guys pick them up only when they are heads up which will bring you good luck while leaving the tails up cent where they lay?

Considering that Ben was a British citizen most of his life and used British coins most of his life, it's understandable that he called them pennies. Don't forget that he died 3 years before the mint started producing cents.

  • I pick up all the pennies I see on the ground.
If I make a purchase though, and have a penny coming back, I always tell the cashier to "keep the change".
