Another Baltimore Show report

I arrived at the show Thursday around noon, and stayed at the Sheraton Inner Harbor hotel, which is connected to the Convention center by a walkway, so I didn't have to worry too much about the bad weather, which really wasn't too bad in Baltimore. As others have noted gold dealing was hotter than hot, and I was able to quickly sell the four pieces I brought with me. The floor traffic was active both Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, but slowed down considerably Friday afternoon. I got to meet the Penny Lady, who was set up in Baltimore for the first time. She is a lovely lady with a very extensive inventory of cool stuff, mostly Indians and Lincolns, of course. I avoided going back to her table Friday, because I was afraid I'd spend money I didn't want to spend. Maybe next time.

On Friday morning I stopped by Julian's table just to tell him how sorry I was about the robbery, and my hopes that the coins could be recovered. He noted that the authorities were working very hard on his case. About an hour later I went to the hotel computer and saw the posting of the FALSE report of the coins being recovered. I really can't understand why someone would get so many people's hopes up when he or she hadn't verified the report. It's just plain stupid in my opinion.

Anyway, there were lots of neat items to on the floor. Dick Osborne's inventory was absolutely awesome! The show is well worth the trip for those who have yet to attend.

I think Dick wrote that for the show he was only bringing slabbed coins worth $1000 or more, which helps to explain the awesomeness of his inventory. Looking forward to seeing his half dimes at the FUN Show.

Was it just gold bullion that was hot? Or were proofs and Saints of vintage variety selling as well? Cheers, RickO

How is it that Charmy gets so much affection despite being a relative newcomer to the forums? She's a great person but the love is almost to groupie level now.

About the false recovery reports, the rumor is that people were trying to scam some reward money.

Having two X chromosomes doesn't hurt! image Plus she frequently shares great pics of great copper!

Dick has nice stuff, but I've always thought that his prices were a little optimistic compared to many other dealers with nice stuff.

For me personally, I don't care how many posts a member has or how long they have been posting here. Because how long you have been posting here is only one considerations. Here's a few ideas why...

    1) She is a knowledagable collector besides being a dealer
    2) She is helpful and shares her knowledge
    3) Whe works the show circuiot
    4) Humble.

No, I'm not a customer of hers. I don't even collect copper. I did try to stop by her table at the Mid-America show to say hi, but her table was swamped with customers.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

Plus she is friendly, knowledgable, posts lots of great pics, and obviously loves what she 's doing. image
  • And unlike a certain female coin dealer who attends all the big shows, the Penny Lady actually sits facing the public, and interacts with people who go to her table. Being personable goes a long way.
And ricko (sorry for the slow response) generic gold Saints, 10 and 20 dollar Libs. and $10 Indians seemed very hot.

Hey guys, I got in late last night (Saturday), and I'm sure glad to be back home after being gone to the SF Mint show last weekend, and then Baltimore! And thanks again for all the kind words, even you Wei! I really appreciate all of you taking the time to stop by my table - it's an added bonus to meet/make new friends at these far-from-home coin shows!

Coinnut, it was great meeting you, and I am looking forward to winning you over to copper soon! Btw, this was my second Baltimore, the spring show was my first one, and I'm looking forward to being at the next spring show in early March again. The Whitman Baltimore show seems to be truly one of the best coin shows.

Goldbully, it was fun talking with you, you're very kind and personable and you seemed to really be enjoying the show.

Yellowkid, thanks for explaining to me where your cute username/avatar came from! And you are absolutely, right, I do truly love what I'm doing!

And Ecichlid, I'm sorry I wasn't able to meet you in MidAmerica, hopefully we'll meet at the next one in Schaumberg in July.

Charmy is cool, she is fun to talk to and has a great personality. Besides, ol' curly would rather be settin' at a table chattin' up Charmy than trying not to stare at the mustard stains some of you brothers decorate your shirts with.

Coinnut, I assume you mean Dealer L? In which case I disagree completely with your assessment of her...

I have yet to meet the Penny Lady, hope to next baltimore, and nice (quick) show report! Now to do a quick to Dick O's inventory... hmmm.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

Curly, you're a sweetheart and it is I who thoroughly enjoy hanging out with you! And you can come chat with me at my table any time, especially when you bring those stunningly beautiful MPL's along - I never will get tired of seeing those little guys!
