I believe it is the wear that gives it that appearance, it is worn or 'compressed' to some extent. I may be missing something, but looking at pictures in my coin books, it looks genuine. Cheers, RickO
here are all 4 mm positions for the 16-D dime, it has to look like one of them to be real (The central image was inserted as part of a discussion, I do not know if that coin was genuine or not):

Here's a 16D in a PCGS G04 slab. As others have pointed out, the serifs on the D are present even in well circulated condition. Hope this is helpful, scott
