PLEASE donot open this thread if you are addicted to unopened cards. It will send you to rehab

A good friend who has one of the most extensive unopened collections in the world and I were talking last night. I told him I wanted to share some of his material with my fellow board members.
Some of this items are so rare.. He was kind enough to send me some pictures of his stuff so I could share with you a small portion of his collection. Nothing is for sale as he has thousands of items like this.
I just wanted you guys to see what some collections of unopened look like.
Enjoy...

Aaron-Herzog-Koufax What a pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats what Im talkin about! AWESOME
Did I say AWESOME!!!!
Seriously, those packs are incredible. I'd be thrilled to have just one of them in my collection, never mind having all of those.
Thank you and your friend for sharing.
THANKS FOR SHARING
Now I see the 60 and 61 say 29-cents
If all those 51-year-old packs are worth so much, only about 30 more years until the packs I have are worth just as much
Unbelievable collection I must say and with the stars showing like the Aaron and Koufax just seem to defy the odds that these would still be in existence.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
The '58 Rack is not a legit rack pack. He will tell you that. That rack and many other '58 and '59 racks were manufactured some time ago and sold to him. We all thought that they were good, they were not. The earliest known legit rack is from 1960.
Also at least 1 of the packs shown is now in my collection. The '58 with Phillies Team on top is now in a PSA holder -- unless there is more than 1. I was going to say the '69 Wax Tray is mine also, unitl I remembered that he recently bought 2 of them.
Still he has a sick collection...probably better than mine, though he collects primarily '50s stuff and more non-sports.
Not surprisded you know him Felicia. Good collectors seem to migrate.
Here is a pic of the '58 cello before it was crossed over

Flathead is right. The '58 rack is counterfeit. Someone took an early '60's Philadelphia non-sports rack and emptied the contents and refilled it with homemade cellos.
Early '60's Philadelphia non-sports racks are the rack of choice used by counterfeiters because it is easy to remove the cellos inside and replace them with bogus sports cellos.
Just remember that the older and more valuable a vintage pack is the (greater) the chance it has been resealed or is counterfeit altogether!--more so if two or more hall-of-famers are showing on the top of a rack--ESPECIALLY the likes of Koufax and Aaron.
The audacity and boldness of the counterfeiter placing both Koufax and Aaron on top is actually quite humorous!

That was my first thought when I saw that.
I'm not an unopened expert by any means, but the wear on that Aaron appears to have come from handling, not from bumping around in a rack.
Similar to the wear you'd see on cards in those Christmas racks.

I recently bought a '57 wax pack from him, GAI-7. I sent it to PSA and Steve could not tell if it was good or bad because of GAI's holder. After consulting with Mr. K, I popped it from the GAI holder and re-subbed it. Came back a PSA-7. I also spoke to Steve about where I got it. He certainly knows his stuff when it comes to unopened.

<< <i>yes it is Mr. K. And he has done a great job at policing the hobby so far as it relates to bad cellos and wax. He takes the time to contact auction houses and is adamant that they pull bad packs. So much so that many will not allow him to bid in their auctions. I simply do not bid on stuff that I think is bad, he goes to a whole different level. I recently bought a '57 wax pack from him, GAI-7. Manny, I agree about Mr. K. He certainly does have a PASSION for the unopened market. Yes, he often sends many emails, but he fights real hard to get bad stuff off the market and out of auctions. I have seen many of the NASTY replies he has received from auction house owners ... owners who are afraid of losing their commission from the pack and also about losing their big consignors. It's nice to see someone fight so hard so others will not get cheated out of their hard earned money.

As previously stated there are no LEGIT racks prior to '60.
If you see a rack prior to '60, it ain't legit
Man that's some awesome stuff.
i had flirted w/ buying a single 69 cello pack at nationals in chicago and ripping there,
but never did.
