Welcome Mozin, glad you can join us. Nice 1807 O-112 BTW.
Check out a recent purchase from a dealer, a 1818/7 Large 8 O-101 PCGS AU53....can anyone tell me anything unusual they see with this O-101? Zap1111, any guesses?
The reverse sure looks like the A-s2 ( O-101a) Welcome Mozin, The quality of the coins might go up a tad with Mozin joining us edited to add -Looking again, it does not look like Rev A at all Rev B?
My 1818/7 Large 8 actaully happens to be not the more common R1 O-101 (that the dealer stated on his website) but in fact the much tougher O-103a R4 variety.
Thanks JRocco, when I saw the T-I alignment I immediately knew it was the O-103 R3 but then I checked on coinzip and saw the fine obverse die cracks and knew it was the O-103a LDS R4 and saw I bought it.
Wow, some nice busties in this thread, especially Peaceman's 1829, PQType's 1807, drddm's stuff, crazyhounddog's 1812 - sweet!, 66 Tbird's 1834, JRocco's 1827, AU58WALKERS '33, tydye's 8/7, Goldbully's 1818 to name just a few. Love those DDO's and 39-O's as well. Can't wait to learn how to take pics of my stuff.
78saen - That nice dirty 1818 has the start of the obverse crack to make it the 112a - R.5 . Itt goes all the way to the inner point of star 11, but hard to tell in the photo if it continues across star 10-8, and to the cap then to star 7-6 and to the edge. Most likely an intermediate state.
Here's an ex-Logan 1824 O.115
I think maybe this forum had been starved of a good bust half thread of late - great to see this one bust the 100+ post mark. Great coins, everyone! Goldbully, that 1818 just sings! zap
I would just lioke to thank everyone for their contributions to this thread. What beautiful coins. Great examples of a really nice classic US coin design. Thanks
<< <i>What great coins. DDM - you have posted too many that I love to name so let me just say they are ALL awesome. 1827 Now this should bring out the bustchaser... >>
Ok, John...
I can't believe I missed this thread!!!
I have a few 1827's...even if most of them don't compare with the others in the thread.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
What does the first one to identify by variety all of OKBustchaser's 1827s posted in this thread win, besides a POUNDING headache? I don't know about you, but I find that date incredibly challenging for identification. Incredibly challenging.
Here's a sad but somewhat rare coin. I do like the "character" of the piece, though. zap

Welcome Mozin,

edited to add -Looking again, it does not look like Rev A at all
Rev B?
It should've been labeled a 101"a" with the obv die crack star 11 to curls and through 50C
Hard to watch my Packer game right now!

Now look closely at the T-I alignment and the die crack that goes from the bottom of the first 8 and goes to the top of the second 8.
Any guesses now?
I broke out the Overton and saw it as you posted it
Nice score on a less common piece.

thread of really lovely Half dollars that I have
ever had the pleasure to see.
Camelot
nor the ability to take pictures. Perhaps some day, I will find a nice person to
take a few pictures to show the troops.
1818 Half has the tone and the look of coins that I favor. That in addition to the
warm, even toned, gray/silver/ with underlying luster, that is so indicative of NT
over a loooonnnnggggg period of time.
