I can only think of one dealer who lives there and I'm thinking he'll be okay.

Even by today's prices the small town of Palo Verdes is probably worth more in terms of real estate value than most counties in the country.

I recall accompanying some friends looking at homes and lots there with views overlooking the former Marineland and on out to Catalina Island. That was back in the early 70s and I'm sure the newly built homes then selling for a couple hundred thousand are now going for millions despite the economy.

You can see the La Canada Flintridge fire from my house, it's about 5-6 miles away but last night the whole hillside was glowing red.

It's my favorite place to run and this saddens me. It broke out between Portuguese Bend and the Trump golf course, near PV Drive South. Portuguese Bend has rapidly shifting soil so they banned construction there for roughly the last thirty years or so. Ony brush will burn if they contain it there. Otherwise, things will get very ugly very quickly. My prayers for people who live in that neck of the woods. It's one of the most beautiful areas near the city of Los Angeles.

Ashes falling around you, makes you reflect on your insurance coverage. In So Calif we have many hills and thus brush areas. These are considered very high risk for coverage. Anything less than 300 feet from brush equals a huge surcharge. Someone in a identical house a quarter mile away from you might pay $1,000 a year. If you're in the brush zone, premium could be $4,000-$6,000.

Well, the Palos Verdes fire is basically out -- but the Station fire has now burned 35 square miles.

It tripled in size over the course of just 3 hours this afternoon -- a rate of an acre a second!!! -- and is now deemed "uncontrollable" in part because of triple digit temperatures and single digit relative humidity. It will be at least a week before they will be able to get it contained.

We can see and smell the fire from our front porch even though we're 6 miles south of its southern edge.

Now it's 55 square miles -- nearly doubled in size again over just the past several hours -- and our air is thick with smoke this morning.

droop- remember last year's fire in Sylmar? the smoke from that fire left over an inch of ash on our house and in our pool, had some helth concerns for a few days afterwards as well. and we lived in the valley.

hate to see angeles Forest go up in a blaze- it is really nice up there in the fall.

Just got notified to be in at 1500 hrs (3PM) regarding the Station fire, will most likely be in the Acton area either on patrol or blocking an intersection. Fire jumped north over night so we are being sent to assist Palmdale Station in the Antelope Valley 12 hrs on 12 off.
