Yesterday I felt like garbage (think all the driving and the stress just wore me out) and the hospital wanted the car seat to do a test where Wyatt was to sit in it for 1 1/2 hours so my wife's father said he would do it if she would provide some gas money. Not a real big deal one would think as we have been getting the round trip done in our Explorer on $20 (7 1/2 gallons) so figured his mini van which is good on gas wouldn't need as much as ours but boy were we wrong. He decided that as part of the favor of taking his own daughter to see her son that he would fill up his vehicle to the tune of $33 which doesn't sound like much but when your a one income family every penny counts and while there he needed food so he went for a full meal at the hospital which was another $7 while my wife and son each had a piece of pizza.
Anyway they came back fairly late and this morning we got a call saying that they couldn't do the car seat test as the base hadn't been left (wife was told last night when presenting them with the seat that they had all they needed) so as we were going up today we took the base in for the test. Wyatt passed with flying colors.
We had been working on getting him transferred to our local hospital as they were willing to take him even if he had the feeding tube. And we really thought that was what was going to happen after a completely horrible day of feedings but he suddenly decided to take all his feedings by bottle and yesterday they were making preparations for him to come home (that was what the seat test was for) and we went up early this morning to get our little guy.
So now we are on another journey of our lives with the wonderful addition to our family and it will be full of surprises and ups and downs but there are never any guarantees in our lives and will take whatever comes our way in stride. We have asked why another child of ours was to be born premature but we are certain that even if we never find out the answer that there is a reason for everything. Even though this hasn't been the most enjoyable experience there are others that have a more rocky road then ours as you can see that when wandering the halls and hearing the conversations at the hospital and so I am going to try and have those people in my thoughts and prayers (when I can remember to pray) as they need that just as much as we did during these past few days.
Once again I want to thank all of the members of this board for all the kind words both here and in PM's and all the thoughts and prayers sent our way. I and my family truly appreciate it and I will never forget it.
Awesome Jeff!! Our 1st was in ICU for 10 days and it was miserable, so I feel your pain!! Wyatt's home where he should be now and that is what is important!!
Dear God: I'm sorry I caused all this trouble, but it was too darn dark and wet in there ... I HAD to get out! Now PLEASE let me go home so I can be with the bestest mom, dad and brother a little boy can have. Amen!
STAY HEALTHY!

We were rather surprised that they let us bring him home as they kept saying 2 to 4 weeks. We had multiple conversations about transferring him here and were told at first that there was no way that it would ever happen to the other day where they worked out a plan all day with our local hospital to finally saying to come and take him home.
Could be that we are experienced in this as our first was born at 30 weeks and that Wyatt wasn't sick. He was smallish but compared to the other babies there he looked huge on side of them. And with the amount of premature babies that were being born while we were there they really were having problems with spaces for the newborns so maybe they decided that we knew what were doing to some degree as they needed the space.
His feedings are still kinda off as he starts out good and gets tired and doesn't want anymore but we had a doctors appointment this morning and he's gaining weight and as grown about one since since being born. Had to have some blood drawn today as one of the blood tests they did in Bangor came back with a slight issue to do with enzymes but they want to make sure it wasn't a false reading so were crossing fingers on that one.
We are all still kinda tired from all the running back and forth but settling into the routine of the feedings and will be getting his brother ready for the start of school. Going to be different for me once my wife goes back to work as she's been doing most of the feedings (she missed out on that the first time as the pharmacy she worked for made her come back because of her being a new worker there at that time) but I guess I did pretty good with Simon and will do the best I can.
Jeff ... glad to hear that all is going well. Please keep us informed. GOD BLESS WYATT.
STAY HEALTHY!

A good nights sleep would be good as most nights I've just hung on and finally passed out.
Had one night driving back that at times I wasn't sure I would make it. One section of the road is called Blacks Woods and is a very twisty road with lots of curves and that middle line was playing tricks with my head the entire time driving through there. Got home and if I had to have gone any further we wouldn't have made it.
Wife is having a nice and well needed nap right now and I'm just trying to read up on what's been going on. Need to mow the lawn and had all intentions but will put it off until tomorrow as it's not going anywhere.
I'm sorry for not chiming in earlier, I've been without internet for a couple of days. You know how it is here in the sticks.
I'm thrilled to read that Wyatt and Mom are doing so well. He is a handsome young man! And he looks very healthy which is good to see.
I know how far it is from where you are to Bangor, so I am glad your home now. That is one LONG haul and the drive alone wears you out, never mind the stress of a baby and Mom. Blacks Woods is a tricky road even on the best of days, but I am glad to hear you made it up and back ok.
Are you gonna be taking Wyatt to the Machias Hospital now or do you still have to do the Bangor thing?
Thanks for keeping us updated and for posting the pics of your new "PSA 10" Please send our best to Mom too!

Blacks Woods is a tricky road. Been through there to many times to count but nighttime is my least favorite when it comes to that road. When we moved down here from Bangor years back we came through there during a blizzard and that was probably one of the most interesting trips I've had. I was riding with a guy that was driving the U-haul and he did fairly well even though the road was no where to be seen. Made it to the Cherryfield and going up the steep hill there we didn't make it and slid down backwards.
Last trip up and back we went #9 as the road between Ellsworth and Bangor is a mess. Wife and father-in-law went that way the other day and was caught in traffic due to the construction. I'm not one to travel #9 but it wasn't bad. Hardly any traffic to speak of which I thought was odd but then many go through Ellsworth on their way to Bar Harbor and we made really good time.
Got Wyatt set up with a local pediatrician (same one that Simon has) so won't have to go to Bangor and to be honest I don't care to see Bangor for some time. I lived there for awhile back in the 80's and know my way around but so much has changed there and the pace of life is just to fast for me. Guess I'm just getting old.

Things are about as normal as one can expect.
Wife went back to work yesterday so I'm on the clock full time now. Feedings are all over the place but he's eating fairly well at mostly 3 ounces every 3 hours. Makes it hard to do much of anything but soon he will be able to go longer in between and can't wait until he starts being able to sleep throughout the night without having to be woken for his bottle.
And diapers ain't that bad even though he's had a few where you have to question how he got the mess were it ended up. I managed with our firstborn so no problem in that department. I'm a quick change artist and so far no accidents on me or where I change him.
When I was younger I never thought I would be married or have children but I really don't mind it. It's not been smooth sailing but no one is guaranteed that in life so take what comes. I just hope that I am a positive influence on my boys and give them what they need to survive and be the best men they can be when they are old enough to venture out into the world.
And can't add to this without a picture.
Have a doctors appointment this afternoon so we'll see how much he's grown and weighs since the last visit.
