<< <i>Ross - If it was only a bid (not a buy it now), you can retract it. >>
It is just a bid, but I have some responsibility here too for not outright asking in my previous communication and it's not an obscene amount of money, so I'll live with the consequences if they are to be had. Actual shipping cost and a $9 markup are slightly different numbers in my mind, and it is more of a principle issue.
<< <i>I know it's not that big a deal, but when S&H is free, why would a buyer leave anything other than 5 stars? >>
I also offer free shipping (and insurance) for all auction winners, and I've had a couple guys give me less than 5 stars (baffling).
One thought that occurs to me after checking out your eBay items--since all of your current listings are Buy-It-Now, buyers may be thinking that you're including S&H as part of your fixed price. Also, do you pay for insurance if someone buys a few hundred dollars worth of your cards? If you expect your buyers to pay for that, then I can see where some of them will ding you with a "4". It's hard to fault a buyer for saying that your S&H is "Reasonable" (the definition of 4) if you charge them anything at all for shipping and/or insurance.
That said, eBay's treatment of shippers who earn a DSR of "Reasonable" is beyond stupid.
<< <i>Almost 7 months and another 150 or so transactions later and my S&H DSR is still at 4.8 while the others are 4.9. >>
Another 2 months and at least another 150 transactions and my S&H DSR is still at 4.8. It was briefly at 4.9 yesterday. Next FB left dropped it to 4.8 again. WTF?
The only time I charge for shipping is for live auctions. Store items always have free shipping.
<< <i>who in their right mind offers free shipping? >>
I offer free shipping on almost all of my items - and here is why:
I have a lot of email from buyers who have commended me on the way I ship their cards. Here is what I do -
1 - buy box of 25 bubble envelopes for 5.00 (.20 each from sam's club) I know I can get these cheaper, but Sam's is just right down the street
2 - I cut the bubble envelope into six parts, knocking the cost of the bubble to less than 3 1/5 cents each
3 - I then use a 6X9 manilla clasp envelope (.04 each from Sam's)
4 - Place graded card into plastic sleeve (free as my father's fish supplier sent him a box of 1000 fish bags which were the wrong size...but perfect for graded cards)
5 - Put card in plastic sleeve, then bubble envelope, then 6X9 envelope and because of weight and size postage usually costs 1.25-1.75 first class.
If I feel the need to add delivery confirmation then I am happy that the card put enough money in my bank account to pay the extra .60 cents
Shipping cost me less than 2.00 and I am happy with the money I make off the cards
DSR's are a game you can't win.....unless you start PAYING your customer for the privledge of selling them your item, and then hand deliver it to their doorstep.....

I add insurance to any item that sells for $50+ and I cover the cost.
Feebay would never do that, because they would have to give more power seller discounts.

That would make way too much sense
