2008-W 1/2 oz. Unc. Gold Buffalo Mintage??

jmski52jmski52 Posts: 23,956 ✭✭✭✭✭
Coin World shows a mintage of 9,928 for the 1/2 oz. Unc. 2008-W Gold Buffalo.

Did they forget a two-coin set (1/2 oz AGE & 1/2 oz Gold Buff), or am I confused? Did the 2-coin set include proofs and not uncs?

Was this coin part of a two-coin set, and if so - does anyone know the final set mintage?

thanks, jmski

The beauty of this coin is, there is no competition regardless of the mintage.

Unless you are building a set of ALL (AGE, etc.) half ouncers from the US Mint. Glad I got me some..........

    This brings back bad memories....

I ordered one from the mint when they opened... received their package and inside was the 1/4th ounce instead of the 1/2 ounce. I returned it right away and waited for them to send me the 1/2 ounce which never showed. They ended up refunding my money. I'd of much rather had the coin.

"Double Prosperity Set" (2 coin unc. set of 1/2 oz AGE & Buffalo) Last know sales figure for that set was 7,751.
Individual 1/2 oz unc. Buffalo set had a mintage of 3,297. It appears CW figures are correct.

Coin World is saying that the 1/2 oz. Unc Gold Buff's total mintage is 9,928.

If the Double Prosperity Set issue totalled 7,751 then the difference between Coin World's number and the Double Prosperity Set number - is 1,177 and that number doesn't reconcile with the 3,297 number given for the individual coins.

Does anyone have any further thoughts on this???image

Actually I think you need to add 3 numbers to get total mintage for the 2008-W 1/2 oz. Unc gold Buffalo.............

    Individually packaged coins..........

    Coins in the Prosperity sets........

Coins in the 4 coin sets..........

    This is like pulling teeth!!

    Okay.....

    Individually packaged coins = 3,297

Coins in the Prosperity Sets = 7,751

Coins in the 4 Coin Sets = 6,531

    Total = 17,579

    Does that appear right, now?

The three option total of 17,579 appears accurate.

Thanks TomB. Getting Mint data right is like Algebra II class - a series of successive approximations....image
