What Say You? Whole or Piece Out?

What say you........

As I look at the forums and read a lot. I noticed that quiet a few people have or are selling there sets.
As I have thought of doing so in the past. With todays market, what would be the best way to do so?

Yes, all of you could say to put on the BST Forum so you could have a crack at them first.
For the seller, would it be best to sell the entire set or individual. I have heard both lobby's on the ideas, but this was when the
market was good. I wanted to get a insight on the idea's that you would think of now.
Are there buyers out there for entire set purchases?

Many of the top sets where sold as a set and not piece meal. For the smaller collector, I havent heard a lot
of ideas since the booming days. Maybe I might of missed a recent thread on this topic, I dont know...

Just wanted a few opinions if you have themimage

    If I was to sell I would try to sell the whole set first and if there was no takers then try to piece out with stiffer prices. I wouldn't want to end up with someone buying all the tougher coins and end up holding a bunch of easy coins that didn't have much value when standing alone.

    It's easier to sell the entire set.

    Selling coin by coin can leave you with some common dated coins with no where to go with them, with out a good loss.

    I agree with this. Once the tough dates are gone, you are left with commons that are going to flee-bay.
    The commons might be harder to find, but everyone would already have.

    Does the market hold buyers for complete set purchases?

    If a person is already set up to sell coins (photography, connections, Ebay record) and has the time to devote to the task, they will almost certainly net more by selling one coin at a time to retail customers. Buyers for a complete set will either be a dealer who will take his/her time to sell them, or another collector that wants a few coins for his/her set and then has the time to sell the rest.

    If a person doesn't have much spare time, isn't set up for selling, doesn't have the skills and equipment to take decent coin photos (or all three), selling the entire set at once, or consigning to a trusted dealer would be the smoother road.

    I've built a number of collections over the years, comic books, baseball cards, Yellowware, mocha, etc. I've always sold them off piece by piece(Usually keep a couple of the best pieces to look at). This is the way to go if you are able and don't need the dough right away but is can be a lot of work.

    First we need to know what kind of set, really does make a difference. Is it a set of circulated Mercs in a Dansco? Or is it a Proof set from the 1880's in consecutively numbered OGH's? image Need more info pleaseimage

    Big difference in the responses you will get.

    Sell the best ones as singles then sell whats left as a starter set.

    I gotThis Set, sans the 1885 for about $250. Circulated for sure, but complete with all but one key. While many in the set won't grade, that's not how I collect. I think I got a bargain. So from the buyer's perspective, please sell you're entire set intact!

    But, from the Seller's perspective, there is a risk in doing so. I believe the comment about "striving to build" a set and NOT "striving to buy" a set is apropos

    GRADED COINS....

    The sets we should be talking about are Quarters, Nickels and Dimes.
    Silver Dollars will get more if sold seperatly, as seen at auctions.
    Any kind of Copper just shows by recent auctions that the buck is time spent selling seperate.
