Airtites & PVC Flips

I keep several of my coins in airtites but i also have some of the airtites inside PVC flips. Are my coins in any danger? Does anyone know if coins are safe from pvc damage if its in an airtite thats placed in a PVC flip? Oh and the box im using temporarily is made of artificial leather looking material is that bad for coins?

I've never had an issue with airtites allowing in contaminents and ruining coins.
I've also just made a major overhaul in my collection and am storing my better raw coins in them since they seem to protect my coins the best. (Worth the investment)

an airtite in a flip sounds like you want to keep the airtite from scratching? or do you think the airtite isn't 100% airtite?

I think a cheaper alternative to keeping the airtite from scratching is just a paper cover.

if you think the airtite isn't 100% airtite, there has been some discussion in other threads about using aluminum foil as an potential anti-corrosive in storage boxes.(basic idea is that the aluminum foil corrodes first) perhaps individually wrapping them carefully in aluminum foil will suit you if you're so inclined? or the see-thru cheaper alternative of plastic wrap?

  • A little of both i guess airtites are kinda hard to store in a box. But im also worried since some of my airtites dont seem fully sealed and creak when i squeeze the edges. I was just worried since one of my proofs now has some milkspots i never noticed before.

  • sorry double post
  • yea a 92 kennedy silver proof. idk i hope it doesnt affect my other ones.
  • Some of my other proofs do have minor spots but only under the right light. Idk is it normal for proof coins to not have a flawless mirror finish? these went straight from the mint pack into airtites.

I'm too new to have any experience. It's just what I've read on here that even coins in slabs (or airtites) tone due to the air in the slab, and some silver does develop milk spots. but I'm only repeating what I've read.

you'll have to wait for someone with firsthand experience for an authoritative answer.

Silver milkspots like crazy in airtites. I don't prefer them -- simple 2x2 mylars are for me.

here's a good storage method for airtites. I use them. I recommend Valley coin for your airtite purchases as well.

    display cards and boxes

  • I just ordered one of those display boxes^. Yea the milkspots drive me crazy whenever i look at them i think ill stay away from putting mirrorlike proofs in airtites in the future. I made a quick video of the ones i put in airtites and the milkspotting doesnt seem to be too noticeable but when i put it under a bright light they become visible is that normal?

I should have explained further that I am currently using my airtites to display and store my Bust and Seated coins which range in grades from AG to AU.
