    Gold.

    Explain?!?

    [edit]

    And Tungsten.

    [edit edit]

My metal collection consists of Gold, Silver, Copper, Nickel, Zinc, Selenium, Indium, Tungsten and Magnesium.

I think it is the combination of the density, color and permanence of gold that is attractive.

    I'm a silver collector.
I love the color, the shine, and the reflectivity it exhibits; something you can't get with gold, copper, or nickel (unless in proof!).
It's a commonly used metal in coinage throughout time; whereas gold was much less common, nickel not existent until recently, and copper I see as a paupers metal (sorry).
As silver wears down, without being artificially enhanced (i.e. cleaned, toned), the color turns into a nice grey; gold and copper stay relatively even in color, nickel similar to silver.

It's much more difficult for silver to corrode (copper), less likely to be counterfeited (compared to gold), and easier to strike (than nickel).

It's the all-around best metal for me and my collecting image

Edited to add: I do have nice collections of Early Copper and Nickels!

I collect silver nickels because I can... where else can you find a 4 year 12 coin set with over 500 RPMs, doubled dies, overdate and mountains of laminations and die crack progressions. The best part is most of them are still affordable.

I'm a big sucker for Silver with a certain original look to it, whether U.S. or foreign.
I love the look of MS copper coins, circulated copper coins, MS and Proof gold.

There, that should keep me off the streets and out of trouble.image

I'd have to say gold and copper mixed. image

When you have seen a nice copper toned gold piece you'll know what I mean. image

Original toned old silver comes in second

Deep Chocolate brown copper comes in third

Design and history in uncirculated grades.

Have to admit overall as far as the metal base is concerned nickel has the least draw, most likely in part due to the designs.

Add platinum to the list as well.

My habit for the last year has moved to copper--especially IHC's RB 63 and up are my passion although I like certain BN dates AU up. The color is intriguing--moreso than the older copper. Most I have are PCGS , but a few are NGC and ANACS. I have about 10 I will send in as soon as the funds are available.

    Platinum.

Beautiful designs, rarity of the metal and the coins, and don't have to worry about toning or milk spots.

Silver. The various toning that can be found makes for almost endless possibility. Intrinsic value, etc.

To a lesser degree I've come to also like nickel. Some of the toning I've been able to get on my few buffalo nickels is just as good as my best colored dollars.
