2009-S DDR Proof Lincoln Found - This makes Two Now. DDR-001 and DDR-002!
Latest discovery farther down.......................
This coin is very similar to AskRaq's CDDR-006:

Except that the finger extends onto the spine of the book and its a proof.

From Billy Crawford:
"I received your 2009-S 1c Proof Formative Years today safe and sound. I have completed my examination of your coin with the following analysis:
(1) 2009-S 1c Proof FY DDR: This is a new listing in my "C" registry files now officially assigned as 2009-S 1c PF FY CDDR-001. This variety exhibits doubling of the index finger to the north. It is similar in doubling appearance to my listing FY CDDR-006/WDDR-007/2009P-1DR-003/CONECA DDR-006/6-R-VIII, however, the index finger remnants on this coin continue into the spine of the book.
Congratulations on the new listing! I will be photographing shortly and will be shipping your coin in tomorrows mail. Thank you very much for allowing me the opportunity to examine your coin and add to my files."
After that its off to John Wexler, James Wiles and then off to ANACS.
Bottomline: Check ALL the Formative Years Lincoln Cents and don;t just follow the crowd. There could very well be some 2009-D's out there as yet undiscovered.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

one of my formative years, and only that one, does have those "dishwasher-type" spots, tho.
It is a truly rare find, but here is a 2009 P Sac with what appears to be the same type of spotting:
<< <i>That really isn't much of a DDO >>
Well I certainly hope not since its supposed to be a ......... DDR.

Strange posts from a guy who supposedly has 5. With a possible mintage of less than 3,ooo pieces,
I'll gladly buy yours if you dont think much of them and make you a heck of a profit over your estimate of their future value.
Seriously.
<< <i>Is this a new find or the initial discovery? >>
The initial. It got bumped up due to the one on Ebay currently.
"Hi Lee,
Received your 2009-S Lincoln cent proof Formative Years safe and sound. I have completed my examination with the following analysis:
(1) 2009-S 1c Proof FY DDR?: Attached is the image that was included in your e-mail yesterday. I took the liberty of adding some arrows. The blue arrow that is pointing to what looks like doubling located just below the thumb is not on this coin. It is perfectly normal in that particular area. The red arrows point to the actual doubling that is on this coin's reverse which are partial remnants of the middle and back segments of the index finger to the northwest. This is a new listing in my "C" registry files and is now officially assigned as 2009-S 1c PF FY CDDR-002.
Congratulations on the new listing! I will be shooting photos shortly and will have your coin and all applicable correspondence shipped this afternoon to John Wexler. Thank you for sending and allowing me to add to my "C" registry files.
Regards,
Billy G. Crawford"
"Lee,

Also, another new discovery Proof FY DDR crossed my desk yesterday and it is now listed as 2009-S 1c PF FY CDDR-003 and will also be illustrated in Supp. #9.
Plus lots of other FY varieties and Early Childhood DDOs and DDRs that have recently been added to my files will be illustrated.

.....So, how come there are no Denver Mint ones then??
<< <i>Lee's 2009-S 1c PF FY CDDR-002 will be illustrated in my upcoming free on-line Die Variety News (DVN) magazine Supplement Issue #9. Congrats again Lee on a very nice find!

Wow Billy! I hope it ends soon................but......ya just never know with these things and given the frequency of the Business Strike DDR's it only stands to reason that some would flow into the proof arena.
The BIG question on my mind is -- "Why no Denver coins?"
Do you suppose folks aren't checking?

No matter what I say it would be pure speculation. But, I suspect that the Denver mint probably has better quality inspection techniques as compared to the Philadelphia mint. We have seen this before in the past. Take for instance all those Minnesota DDR's. There are over 100+ listings for the P-mint, but only just a few for the D-mint.
However, Denver is not perfect and have released into circulation some big ones. Such as the recent 2009-D 25c District of Columbia CDDR-001 with the bold extra letters "ELL" of ELLINGTON. Or the 2004-D 10c exhibiting extreme rotation remnants of the ear.
Then when you factor in all the extra load of producing various designs and coinage under a demanding time table that the Philly mint has to do, then more slip-ups can and obviously do happen.
Anyway, that's just my thoughts on your question. There are still lots of coinage still hung up in the Fed. Res. system, so who knows what is still out there waiting to be found.

nice going Lee.
