"Spot" is the value of one troy ounce of a precious metal, as traded in the various commodities markets.
"Melt" is the value of the precious metal in a coin or medal, as determined by multiplying the net weight of the coin (for example, 0.9675 tr. oz for a U.S. $20) times the spot. Thus, "melt" can be higher than, lower than, or equal to "spot." TD
