  • Doh!

I just checked, and is often the case, I have "more", but you have "better". Very nice stuff Brian!

The Quality versus Quantity dilemna. I'm taking full advantage of the fact that I have not entered any cards newer than 1954 to maximize the bonus points. Actually I had planned on building the 1952-1956 sets in straight PSA 7 but have recently changed my mind. I already have 1954-1959 in raw condition and would rather have a T206 set (minus big 4) and a 1933 Goudey set for the price of the 1955 and 56 in straight PSA 7. So, I'll be a player in the Big 3 set but other than finishing off my current 1952-54 sets you are going to be uncontested.

I don't know how long I'll be there, but I just became the #2 Current Finest Mickey Mantle Master Registry Set.

Earlier in this thread, I had hoped to be in second place by end of summer. It took me a while, but I was able to convince a very dear friend of mine to cough up one of his Venezuelan Mantles as part of a 'trade plus cash' deal for one of my 52s.

I realize that I'll most likely never take over the #1 spot simply because I just can't talk myself into spending ridiculous amounts of money to do so.

Collecting Mantle cards has been a lifetime passion for me, not an addiction. I take much pride in having assembled a pretty nice set of cards without spending a fortune. (I actually spent more on grading and postage fees than I have on any of the cards in my set!)

I love collecting because it's something I've always enjoyed .... Never for the money, always as a hobby!

Levi, if you're reading this .... your #1 spot is safe by me! LOL!

OK POPPA .. I respect that!

Nothing shabby about your '76 Wonder Bread Set!!!! Congrats on 5 years in the #1 spot!!!!
HAHA Just picked this up ... It was part of a group of ~700 PSA cards that I recently bought ... the 470 1975 PSA "8" cards that I put up for sale on the boards (sold about 350 this week) was part of that pickup.

I have never had a #1 set but my 1948 Bowman Basketball set won best of Registry in 2008 and they gave me this award at the PSA luncheon/National Convention in Chicago. Had a great time and met a lot of the collectors on these boards.

I don't think PSA has an Autographed HOF & Legends Multi-field Rookie Card Registry so I can't play.
