This guy is a complete crook

I sold this coin to halowars12

It then appeared here. It's the same guy as this. He buys problem coins then flips them with the "grandfather" technique.

Looking into the bidding history and feedback of halowars12 shows that he not only buys problem coins for lindalouisek, but also routinely shill bids on his auctions.

So here's the kicker. Today I got an email from halowars12 stating: "If you are receiving this please know that this is the last time I will write attempting to get a response from you. Either have the coin in my possession or the payment refunded within 48 hours or I will file a formal complaint with ebay. This is unacceptable and I trust that you will courteously cooperate if in receipt of this letter. J"

Not only did halowars12 obviously receive the coin in question, but the delivery confirmation shows it was delivered too.

My response essentially said that I knew what he was up to, and that if he bothered me again, I'd make sure that he would not be able to successfully carry out business on eBay again.

For those who can't see the price. He paid $1,495.00 (for the 1872-CC SLH), before cracking it out of the NCS holder and flipping it for $6,767.00 on ebay. Problems not disclosed, of course. The other thing that is infuriating, is the "from a collection of coins left to my mother by my grandfather" thing. Then, he tries to scam Will for a refund, AFTER he's already received and flipped the coin (using one of his other identities).

This goes beyond dishonesty. People like "halowars12" really have to be sick and twisted pieces of crap to live their lives this way.

If you will document all obvious lies and shill bidding ebay will act.
    It is just an effort.

On a non coin item I have made it my mission in life to keep one slease seller off Ebay.
They keep reappearing under different names but I have a file with their auctions, pictures and descriptions.
I've also kept the emails from Ebay so everytime they reappear I can go back to someone who has seen them before.
I've gotten this one seller tossed off 6 times!!

I know that the anti-coin posse will probably think I'm a meddling idiot, but I truly don't care. Just for fun, and because the crap is so flagrant, I sent lindalouisek the following message:

"You may have stirred up the wrong hornet's nest. The PCGS coin geeks will be following your every move, between the shilling and the claimed non-receipt of coins by your buying alt Halowars. Good luck; I see you NARU within a week."

I understand your intent - and agree with it - but this kind of thing just drives crooks underground. Except in the case of Ebay, where instead of the tedious route of "going underground", all he/she will do is change ID's. From the brief history illusrated by Goldeneye, it appears you don't need to build up many feedbacks at all on Ebay to sell multi-thousand dollar items.

One time I had a camera stolen out of my car, and a few weeks later saw it advertised for sale in the paper (it had a weird focal length zoom so I knew it was mine). I was going to set up a meeting and then take some friends with me and get the camera back, but my mother (I was young once!) called him and gave him a piece of her mind - which of course eliminated any possibility of me ever getting it back. The current situation with lindalouisek reminds me of that.

Okay so here we go. Some of you may disagree with my stance here but its the truth. The attempt at trying to get a refund after recieving the coin is complete B***s**t and he should be banned for life from ebay as far as I am concerned. Also shill bidding is another thing that drives me batty. However him buying problem coins from heratige or where ever cracking them out and selling them on ebay, although not honest, its all part of the deal. If there are people willing to step up and spend 6K on a RAW coin from ebay sight unseen then they deserve everything they get IMO problem coin and all. The people buying the coins for 6 k are also hoping to make a profit in someway assuming the coin will grade high or what not. If you dont buy raw coins, or only buy from trusted sellers that you know and have dealt with you wont have these problems. If you buy raw coins from people with a story on ebay you are going to get just what you deserve, ripped off for being stupid.

I dont condone or support his methods in anyway and I think everypart of this seller is HORRIBLE. But there are ways to protect yourself and if you choose to ignore it then there is not much simpathy here.

Well this is the buyer of the 1862 Quarter: Contact him However, he's been a buyer of Lindalouisek's stuff more than once, so chances are he won't care about the lies being told by the seller.

LLK hasn't left feedback for the buyer of the 72-CC Quarter and probably won't simply because she doesn't want people telling her buyer what a crook she is.

I very much agree with your stance, for this reason: grading by third parties is still just an opinion - a professional opinion to be sure, but still an opinion. Many buyers just don't care that much about plastic, and if they do, then they shouldn't be buying raw coins from sellers of unknown reputation. Chances are good (although certainly not 100%) that there is a reason that a high dollar coin is not in a reputable slab.

If a raw coin buyer wants to play "coin lotto" and thinks that they are going to get something for nothing (or at least a large windfall for taking a chance), then they don't need any protection. One assumes that they are big boys and girls; it's their money with which to gamble.

Patently fraudulent claims of non-receipt of coins is another thing entirely. That is what I addressed in my message to the seller.

It's not just ebay. A local dealer that has been in business over 50 years in my town makes his living by buying problem coins in holders - cracking them out and selling them as problem free in his shop. I know because I sold him two CC trade dollars in ANACS net grade holders. Two weeks later in his shop both were in 2X2's graded one grade higher than the net grade with no mention of the cleaning for either one. I have not done any business with him since and never will again.

That IS HIS PEROGATIVE!!! You can choose not to do business with him--that is YOUR perogative, but there is nothing illegal or unethical about selling raw coins--especially in a shop where buyers can examine the coins in hand.

While I agree that it's not illegal it is most certainly unethical. I'm not sure how a person can think cracking out problem coins repeatedly and selling them as problem free is an ethical thing to do. I understand that we don't all agree with a TPG's opinions all the time, so if you wanna crack out a few times, fine, that's your perogative, but doing it over and over and over again and always selling the coins as problem free makes the seller a crook, plain and simple.

He isn't selling it as "problem free". He is merely selling a raw coin. Once the coin is cracked out of a holder that opinion no longer exists--good or bad. For example, over the years I have cracked a minimum of 50 coins out of first tier holders. Should I be required to state that "It used to be in a PCGS holder." if I were to sell them? I think most people would say "No, once cracked out the former grading opinion no longer counts." If a coin's former residence in a details holder is relevant information that should be given to a prospective buyer, then a coin's former residence in a PCGS holder is too.

Edit to add: Looking back at the links posted by the OP HE sold it raw with no mention of whether or not it came from a details holder also. I do have a problem with someone trying to get a refund on a coin he has already received and sold, but calling him a crook because he sells the same coins you do is simply not fair.

OKbustchaser, how many of the "minimum 50 crackouts" did you place in 2 x 2s , raise the grade and make no mention of their problems. It is unethical to sell coins that you know to be damaged and to not mention this. Perhaps you might have a long and rewarding career on Ebay.

None...because none of them were in problem holders. There is also the fact that I don't sell coins. If I did, however, every one of them would be in 2X2s with MY grade opinion of them whether that happened to be higher (some), lower (more), or the same as they were previously graded by a TPG. I have also cracked other coins out of detail holders. If I were going any of them that I thought was damaged beyound marketability then yes, I would mention the fact that I thought so. However, the fact that a coin happened to at one time in the past reside in a details holder in no way means that it is not currently market acceptable. It only means that the graders on the paticular day that they examined it didn't think so.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges.

What you're describing is analyzing each of your coins individually and making a decision as to whether or not each one is market acceptable. Maybe some make the cut, maybe some do not.

What this person appears to be doing is just blindly buying large quantities of problem coins and putting them on eBay with no "quality control" screening.

In the interest of playing devil's advocate here...

Let's say you buy a coin in a details holder and legitimately disagree with their grade and/or opinion. So what do you do? You crack and resubmit it...or you break it out and sell it raw. People crack out slabbed stuff they disagree with all the time... and as has been proven on these boards numerous times, quite often the coin comes back a higher grade and/or problem free after having been in a gen-only or details holder. So...were they right the first time, the second time, or is it all just an educated OPINION? I vote the third option. Just because the almighty TPG says something on a label doesn't mean they always get it right. We all know that.

Now, that said, I think in this particular case the guy is a sleazoid who's using used-car-dealer tactics i.e., claiming this was part of granddad's stuff when it obviously wasn't...and I am not a fan of deceptive practices by any means...so I think that this guy and all like him should get the boot. Sellers like that make the rest of us look bad for sure.

I think it certainly is interesting information to know about the details of what slab the coin used to be in. But once the coin is out, things change. The coin is now subject to further damage; the previous certification is no longer a guarantee (such as it was).

I think the concern has more to do with misrepresentation than anything. Somehow I feel we are all actually more on the same page than 'on different paths'. I hope so anyway.

If PCGS sent a coin back as counterfeit, would it then be okay to list it raw on eBay with no mention of it? After all, it's just their opinion, one you could discard without even having to crack a slab...

You are correct. It is absurd (and that is my entire point) to claim that a past opinion from a TPG is still valid after the coin has been cracked. As for buying detail slabbed coins, cracking, then selling them as problem free I have yet to see where the subject of this thread does that. He--in every listing I have seen--merely describes them as raw. He makes no claim whatsoever as to whether they are problem free or not. He doen't even make the wildly overinflated grade claim that is normal on ebay. He admittedly does make up a grandfather story, but that is mere hype--no better nor any worse than most sellers.

    It's there.

Click on the third link in the original post. It will take you to another thread. Same seller, though.

That thread is all about purchasing detail slabbed coins, cracking them, and then selling them without a mention of any problem.

This seller was caught making a profit of about $4500 doing that very thing with a Heritage purchased NCS coin, resold as raw on eBay with no problems mentioned, no history mentioned other than the 'grandfather story'.
