At $750 or so I don't think I could swing the Colin Cooke coin but I would love to have it. Do you think they'll take less for it? Has anyone tried to bargain with these guys?

He may stick to the prices, maybe 400 is a possiblity....I think that there are relatively more 1958s in the 1/2d series as your experience seems to support.
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.
You don't need it Don. If I remember rightly your examples are better. Unless you are planning to buy them all and destroy all but one to have unique 1958 proof 1/2d!
I am joking of course I don't condone damaging any coins.
Looking at the two for sale I prefer the 60 as it appears to have more cameo and to me more eye appeal even if it does have what appears to be a couple of really small carbon spots on the obverse.
<< <i>I can't stand it. I promised myself if another one came up for sale I'd buy it. Someone talk me out of it! >>
I'll try to talk you out of it. Honestly, I don't like it one bit, it doesn't even come close to the second best example that you own. Frankly, I would stick to the same opinion even if it was at $200 for sale. FDC but brown with spots and other distracting stains. PASS. JMHO.
I can come up with one seriously better reason: think of all the Victorian GEM halfpennies that you can buy with ±$700. I know a guy who knows a guy who has some babies 4 sale...
This isn't the hapence you are looking for ... drat ... don't think the old Jedi mind trick works on coins ... I just had to go looking at smoe farthings.
You're having delusions of grandeur again. - Susan Ivanova Well, if you're gonna have delusions, may as well go for the really satisfying ones. - Marcus Cole
Colin Cooke Coins site is now offering a 10% discount on all coins bought on their website (thru June 30), if there is something you want on there. I don't know of a time when this has been offered before.
I would like the 1913 1/2d but it isn't really worth it to place an order for only one coin. Anyone need anything? Maybe we can combine an order or two.

The coin looks good to me. I can understand the "why do you need a third one" point of view. But I like the "they ain't mak'n any more of these" POV better.
If you can swing it and you like it (promised yourself as I recall) - I say buy it.

Which year do you already have (60)?

<< <i>Dimitri makes a wonderful argument against buying the coin. Mrs. ajaan said "why do you need a third one?" and gave me THE LOOK.

An auld Scotsman was once heard to say, "Ten percent of the LOOK isn't worth the discount."
