You don't often see these and they have two up for sale.
Which year do you already have (60)?
  • PBRatPBRat Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭
You'll just have to buy both (1958 and 1960).

I like the other 58's you've shown here better than that one.

I have two other 1958 1/2d VIP Proofs.

At $750 or so I don't think I could swing the Colin Cooke coin but I would love to have it. Do you think they'll take less for it? Has anyone tried to bargain with these guys?

Give it a try. The worst they can do is refuse the offer. image

He may stick to the prices, maybe 400 is a possiblity....I think that there are relatively more 1958s in the 1/2d series as your experience seems to support.

You don't need it Don. If I remember rightly your examples are better.
Unless you are planning to buy them all and destroy all but one to have unique 1958 proof 1/2d!

I am joking of course I don't condone damaging any coins.

Looking at the two for sale I prefer the 60 as it appears to have more cameo and to me more eye appeal even if it does have what appears to be a couple of really small carbon spots on the obverse.

Does that make you feel better?

Yes, it does, but 1958 is a more special year to me image

    hmmm . . . buy them all? interesting . . .

I'll try to talk you out of it. Honestly, I don't like it one bit, it doesn't even come close to the second best example that you own. Frankly, I would stick to the same opinion even if it was at $200 for sale. FDC but brown with spots and other distracting stains. PASS. JMHO.

I can come up with one seriously better reason: think of all the Victorian GEM halfpennies that you can buy with ±$700. I know a guy who knows a guy who has some babies 4 sale...image

And you still don't own an Australian 1958 proof halfpenny. I hear that they come in blazing fresh red PF66 RD condition this time of year.image

Dimitri makes a wonderful argument against buying the coin. Mrs. ajaan said "why do you need a third one?" and gave me THE LOOK.

You could also buy a rare 1871 halfpenny for those bucks and still have a lot of change left over! image

Colin Cooke Coins site is now offering a 10% discount on all coins bought on their website (thru June 30), if there is something you want on there. I don't know of a time when this has been offered before.

I would like the 1913 1/2d but it isn't really worth it to place an order for only one coin. Anyone need anything? Maybe we can combine an order or two.

    Ajaan,

The coin looks good to me. I can understand the "why do you need a third one" point of view. But I like the "they ain't mak'n any more of these" POV better.

If you can swing it and you like it (promised yourself as I recall) - I say buy it.
