Some people are unrealistic

Somebody butts into a non-baseball group's chat I'm in with the following message:
Him: Hey Sportsfans, i have a nice autographed and certified PICTURE of MANTLE/DIMAGGIO which is a classic one of a kind, if interested IM or email me, ty
Him: fantastic sports item here
Me: who certified it?
Him: psa

Him (messages now in instant messaging, rather than in the open board): hi
Me: hi
Me: i'm not looking to buy

Him: its psa and also certificate from store
Him: why not.. it can only go up in value
Me: i trust psa
i just don't have several hundred in spare cash lying around

Him: try several thousands
Him: it can go for upto 50 K
Me: for mantle and dimaggio
nah
those go for 600-800

Him: nope
Me: both guys did a lot of signing in the 80s and early 90s

Him: them together is a rare item
Him: nope
Him: thats a myth
Him: they didnt sign items together very often
Me: they didn't have to be at the same show

Him: this item was signed together
Him: help me find a buyer and i will give u a %
Me: sell it thru a major catalog auction

Him: no cause auction u have to take highest bid
Me: looking online, american memorabilia sold one last year (jsa authenticated) for 919

Him: ive researched this item enough to know what i am talkin about
Him: so u up for my offer?
Me: nah
Me: there are plenty out there for sale right now

Him: bs, go to ebay right now and tell me how many u find
Him: both mantle and dimaggio on same pic
Me: check email
The text of email was:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Mantle,Dimaggio,Mays,Snider-Autograph-Photo-PSA/DNA_W0QQitemZ140285795579QQcmdZViewItem

He wants $600 for Snider, DiMaggio, Mantle, and Mays, with PSA/DNA

Him: if it isnt a reprint or copy..
Him: then hes a fool
Me: no he's not

Him: thats where the bid is
Me: that's a buy it now

Him: Winning bidder
Him: what did u give me a virus or something with that link
Him: i just got bumped off quickly
Me: no
i pasted an ebay link

Him: he cant freaking sell an item if its being bid on
Him: duh
Him: he has to wait til the auction is over
Me: no
it's a buy it now
Me: search this item number in ebay
140301367802

Him: no in his paragraph he talks about, winning bid has to pay shipping
Me: that guy will take 850 for mantle, dimaggio, and williams

Him: dude i dont care.. i researched this and talked to many professionals in the field
Me: jsa authenticated

Him: jsa isnt psa
Me: jimmy spence was psa's lead authenticator for about 5 years

Him: many told me i could get between 10 K - 25 K
Me: all the old psa/dna stuff was him
Me: anyone who told you that is nuts
Me: and offer to sell it to them for 25% of that

Him: hey i am not desperate for money so i will hold out for a high bidder
Me: fine
Me: high bidder might get you 1K

Him: i bet u that 1k i get more for it
Him: we on
Me: i'm not betting you anything

Him: then fo
Me: i gave you a market value based on my knowledge of the field
Me: lo and behoild, it's in line with ebay offers

Him: and i told u i found out differently
Me: and not much lower than catalog auyctions

Him: so u take your negativity elsewhere
Me: what dealers told you 10K to 25K?

Him: that ebay item is BEING BID ON
Him: several
Him: some online.. some not
Me: they have buy it now icons

Him: u dont understand too well do ya... a person cannot do a "buy now" while an item is being bid on
Me: you seee the item number i last gave you

Him: look just go away
Me: 850 is his BIN price
Me: with the BIN button

You're more patient than I would have been. After he talks about several thousand and 50K I would have been done.

Sounds like he's looking to scam someone with a forgery or he's a total moron...or both..

Wow. The scary thing is that the next generation may end up dealing with a litter of his offspring.

WOW. A Mantle and DiMaggio together for 50K!!!

    I'd say $700-800 tops.

That guy is not selling anything.

<< <i>Him: no cause auction u have to take highest bid >>

He really wants to sell it for less than the highest?

In some ways it is refreshing to see delusional rather than scammer

Sadly there are a lot of misinformed folks like him out there who think that any collectible or memorobilia they have with deceased icons of sports is worth what their friends tell them and not what the market dictates. He will be holding on to that "rare" item for many years to come.
