Beware - a bunch of auctions on Ebay have pics of the good dates on the Lincolns and ship bad ones

I purchased a bunch of formative years rolls on Ebay. The pictures show the good dates for the doubled dies, yet you rcv crappy dates like 4/21 instead. Different than what the picture showed. I will be giving negatives to each and every one of them, except the guy that showed 4/30 and sent 4/17 which were fine.
Just beware the thieves are onto the gig and mis-leading.

Don't convict them based on a possible explanation that they are a scammer. As an honest seller I see these threads and realize it could happen to me. I sold several boxes of LP1 lincolns and didn't even look at the date. I used the same picture. I hope nobody was disappointed by the date on the one they got. --Jerry

I'm not sure I understand the difference. One person sent wrong dates gets a neg, another does and doesn't? Seems to make no sense. did their auctions state that you would receive "good dates" as opposed to "crappy dates" or that you would receive rolls of formative years lincoln cents? If you read into the auction something that wasn't stated, it's not their fault. If they are stating you receive the dates pictured, then even the "good date" that doesn't match the date pictured should be negged!
Another opition is to file a dispute "not as described." If seller delivers something different than what is picutured and did not make this clear in the description then it is not as described. Seller is using a picture to describe his product just as he uses words. He has an obligation to make it clear that you will not be receiving exactly what is pictured.

I used the ask a seller a question function on ebay and was told one date and he shipped me two different dates.
Class act.
He gets no more of my money.

Bingo, and fwiw I'm not saying such sellers are scammers. I'm simply saying that they did not ship what was pictured.
It is not up to a buyer to ask if what is pictured is being sold. It is up to the seller to disclose such info.
Now if the seller claimed his pic is a stock pic and what is being shown may or not be what is being sold I have no problem.
It would be like a seller pictures a MS 66 Morgan dollar and sends an inferior coin. Both are Morgan dollars, what's the problem?
Steve
The dates on the box indicate when the coins inside the box were packaged, not necessarily when they were rolled. It could very well be two completely different dates.
IMO, if you're looking for a specific date box then ask the seller before you bid if what you see (date wise) is what you will receive.

Like I said earlier, I bought a single box off the seller and it was as advertised. The second auction was for a 5 box set with a picture of 5 boxes all dated 4/29. nothing in the description saying that items pictured are a stock picture or that I will not receive these dates. Seems pretty simple to me. I will add the item number so you can be the judge. item# 280355290509 .
tell me what you would do? Do you really think asking the seller if these are the dates you will receive after buying one on an earlier auction and getting what was pictured?

<< <i>I woundn't neg them unless they stated that the date/box you see is what you get or you asked them about the date. Most sellers wouldn't even notice the date unless they read threads here. --Jerry >>
Gotta agree. On boxed sets where only the box is pictured you may not get that box. If it is not stated that the boxed item is the one you'll get then ask.
Now if a coin is pictured then I would expect that coin unless it is stated otherwise.

You should have asked the buyer explicitly what the actual date of the set is. too many ppl using stock or stolen photo's now.
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
should i expect a box from 4/29?
THEY ARE PACKAGED IN THE ORIGINAL U.S. MINT BOX UN-OPENED AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO.
He's one to block. Shows the generic Mint 2 roll picture on his ads.
I sent him a message asking the date/time. He replied " 4/27." All the boxes he shipped were May dates.
I asked him why he lied. He said prove it, so I replied to his original message. Received another evil message, so
he's getting a neg.
FWIW, I have asked sellers what dates they are actually selling via ask the seller a question function, seconds later repeated the process, come back to my message box after a few minutes, read the response, clicked on the auction to buy, only to find the seller posted my question and someone else "bought it now" literally a couple of minutes before I would have, and most likely due to my asking the question. This happened at least twice this past week
BUMMER!
I guess you have to keep several windows open and act like you are an air traffic controller to win the game.
I just bought 5 boxes of 4/27 date because I had good luck with the 3 previous 4/27 dated boxes.
I specifically offered the seller a price for the 5 4/27 boxes and he listed an auction for me with the 4/27 dates.
This person will get a neg if I do not get 4/27 dated boxes.

That really is crazy, for the sake of $50 the seller loses his credibility.
$20 per box versus $30 per box.

If I was that concerned about dates I would have done what the auction stated: "...ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK...REGARDS... "
Again, I think that you folks that are buying according to the date on the box are just setting yourselves up for disappointment since there are no guarantees that any of them contain the DDR you might be looking for.

You probably could do an 'item not as described' and get your money back. (charge back).
My opinion is the picture means nothing, if the date is not referred to in the description.

<< <i>From what I have heard from others is that the dates mean absolutely nothing. I said 4/29 was th best becaus eI found a ton of DDRs, but another guy said he had 5 sets from the same date and found none. I would not neg anyone for that. >>
The dates have tons of meaning, and people, IMO are explointing it to various degrees.

I hate sellers that give "Free" shipping and make insurance "optional".
The seller states in the description what date you will receive.
It is different then the pic and I see no problem with it.
Steve
I was to get.
The burden is on him to send what he pictures in this case.
in the sleazy world of ebay yes it is best to ask the seller if what is pictured is actually what will be sent.
Especially when such info is needed so one could make an informed buy.
