not a rant....ebay customer sends me this message today...

after I sent hm/her A second chance offer on this..... link

I don't do second chance offers, all that says to me is the seller or sellers friend was pumping the price on me and that is not right. I will not be bidding on anything else you list as this is the 2nd pump job and I don't play that. Good luck

he/she bought these from me recently..... link

I sent this answer and have not heard anything since

Dear coinareus,

Hello,
I'm sorry you think that of me, it's not true, the only reason I have so many of these is that back in march of 2007 you may have heard or read of someone in Florida who had discovered over
10,000 (it was more like 11,000) G Washington
Missing Edge Lettering Errors, that was me...
at that time we held approx. 20% of all the known MEL errors, most of these that were sold on TV at the time came from us..again I'm sorry you have pre-judged me.
Have a great weekend,
Eric E. Beers

How else other then what I have done
can a seller deal with this.............? Opinions please

maybe mention in the auction that you have multiples of this particular item and will be offering 2nd chance to those who bid, or set a price and do it as a dutch auction?

at least you got an answer

I don't think I have ever took a 2nd chance, and never tell the guy why

If not a shill, than another being offered soon and possibly lower priced

As has been said. Your auction format is all wrong. You state that the coin pictured is the coin you will
receive. Well, that's not true, is it? If you have multiples please list in one of the other formats like a
    dutch auction.
State clearly that you have xxx to sell and that you were the finder of the large Florida hoard.
Just state it like it is and you'll not have the confrontations you don't like.

It resembles a rant, in contrast to the thread title image.

    Eric,

Unlike the bidder, and some here, you handled it in a very classy way! Kudos to you!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Has he left FB for the other purchases? If not I'd be worrying about what he is going to leave after that comment. I would list as dutch auction or Fixed price b/c Second chance offer is kinda tricky. You don't want to tell people you will be sending them out b/c then they will bid lower thinking they just get a second chance and like someone else said it wouldn't be the same coin pictured would it?

I for one rarely accept Second chance offers b/c it tells me the seller has another he will be listing and I may get it cheaper image
    Its all relative

So many scammers have sent so many fake second chance offers that they have a bad rep, customers have been warned about them and are leery of second chance offers thus... they jump to conclusions, don't worry about it and enjoy the weekend!

There are a lot of fish in the sea. Upon receiving his message, I would have blocked him
and probably not wasted time on a response.

if it is holdered and individually numbered, then that is the coin the first winner will get.

however, perhaps you have a point when it comes to the second chance e-mail and the second chance offer.

the suggestion would be to include in the second chance offer that you have another slabbed, provide the number, and the link to verify it.

could also show the person signs of shill bidding, and that they weren't present on his wins.

I disagree. The first coin sold is the coin the first buyer will get. He sold one and offered a second item. this is the way it is intended to work. Usually when I send a second chance offer I add a note like "I have a second one of these that I would sell for your bid. Let me know if you want pictures."

I think ebay is doing away with dutch auctions, not that it matters to me much since I don't usually do them. But a dutch auction guarantees that the seller will sell x or more items for the xth bid. The seller may not want to do that and I wouldn't generally recommend it for something that isn't really hot. On a coin like this the 4th bid may be $5. but if a coin goes for good money then it is worth sending a note to the underbidder(s). If it goes cheap, you'll only want to sell the one. --Jerry

Jerry- if ebay is doing away with dutch auctions not a big deal, but if I were to be out bid by say 4-8 dollars on an item ending up in second position and get a 2nd chance, my first thought as a buyer is that the 1st person was a shill and I usually turn it down. But if Eric listed in the body of the auction that he will offer second chance or he has multiples of an item then I doubt he would get this kind of rant from a buyer, but then we are ASSuming that most intelligent buyers actually read the auction listing. I believe you can put a fixed price on the item and list how many you have for sale- I have seen several done this way as well. Overall I don't think Eric should sweat this one unless the buyer comes back with negative feedback on the other auctions he won and has no relation to the one on the 2nd chance offer- that won't look good IMO.

but I like Eric anyway- he's cool.

"coinareus" owes you an apology. He made a blatant false accusation against you, and you defended yourself in a clear and respectful manner.

As a buyer, I ALWAYS happily accept second-chance offers from sellers... why wouldn't I? If my highest maximum bid was what I considered to be a fair and reasonable price, then I should have no problem honoring it... period.

I have bought from Eric's auctions a few times. On one occasion, I felt like the deal I got was too good. After the auction ended, I sent him a note telling him that the coin sold too cheaply and offering to pay more than my winning bid. He refused and said that is what happens in auctions. Eric is a class act and I would recommend him to anyone! All the coins I have purchased from him were exactly as described.

Coinareus is off base. Maybe he has been burned in the past. But he pre-judged Eric and assumed. He was wrong. I wish there were more dealers out there like Eric - that sure would make buying off Ebay much more reliable and pleasant. Keep up the good work Eric.
