<< <i>"The next grade up is a big jump in price".

Well, that would be meaningful if the coin was graded incorrectly, HOWEVER, it is graded correctly and stands no chance of upgrade.

Providing false hopes of a numeric upgrade is one of my pet peeves.

What especially kills me is when the seller knows the coin is correctly graded and says this little phrase anyway.

Anyone else want to vent tonight? >>

From the dealer's perspective, the dealer might not be "providing false hopes of an upgrade", but instead pointing out that, perhaps the 1886-O Morgan dollar in MS-64 at $12,000 might be a good decision compared with the same coin in MS-65 for $250,000, even if the MS-64 will never upgrade. >>

Then it's really a MS63 if the seller is letting it go as a MS64 at $12,000. Can't keep submitting a coin for a two point upgrade in your scenario.

I stood behind a collector once who was oggling at an average nice 1881-S Morgan and the dealer says "this is a better date" .
The collector said nothing. I guess he was a newbie and the dealer could tell.

Some dealers will watch your emotional response as you examine the coin before they quote you a price. Stay emotionless / sort of disinterested or the price will be proportionate to the excitement you show.

or, the seller could just be helpfully pointing out that your wasting time looking for the next higher grade if price is a issue

On a coin with a huge obverse scratch (the Grand Canyon of scratches): "Oh... I didn't see that"

On the same coin: "You can buy this one now, and upgrade later"... "I don't like seeing holes in my sets"

Same shop, different coin: "I don't mind the rim bumps on that piece"

Here is a real HONKER if I ever read one. As if eBay doesn't SELL enough, they have writers that clog up the website with THIS sort of malarkey :

Are you looking to expand your coin collection? eBay has the largest selection of popular and hard-to-find coins. The US Coins category has morgan dollars, lincoln wheat cents, buffalo nickels, commemorative silver coins, double eagle gold coins, mint proof sets and more. Or are you a world coin collector? Find gold panda coins or a silver panda, ancient roman, canadian gold maple leaf, silver maple leaf coin, south american coins, world gold coin and byzantine coins on eBay. Do you prefer to collect paper money from the US and around the world? Visit eBay and find that rare silver certificate, iraqi dinar, india rupee, japanese yen, belgian congo, canadian bill, antigua bank note or costa rica colones. eBay also has a broad selection of Exonumia, including elongated coins, encased coins, medals, civil war coins, transit tokens and US trade tokens. The Bullion category has gold bullion, platinum bullion and silver bullion. You're bound to find that gold eagle coin, silver eagle coin, south african gold coin, gold bullion bar, platinum eagle coin, silver bullion bar and 100 oz silver bar. Explore eBay today and be amazed at what you'll find!

    Be a venue, puhleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase image
I can find what I'm LOOKING for quite well, eBay personnel ! I don't need "YOU" suggesting to me what I "might" find at the auction house that is so full of crap that just peeking in makes me feel stupid because of what YOU put there.

<< <i>My pet peeves are when a seller lists something on ebay and puts his own stocking number in the title for some reason. >>

Why does that bother you? I've been thinking about the same thing to help with shipping. Ebay and paypal don't give you everything you need to avoid shipping errors when you sell a lot of similar items. --Jerry

  • This applies primarily to EBay ... but a seller's description of a PCGS/NGC/ANACS-slabbed Morgan "Proof-like" or " DMPL ", but the TPG failed to describe it as such on the slab. It's all about the hype!

It's graded XX but it's really a grade higher than that.

The ones who piss me off are the ones who profess to know some big secret about NGC or PCGS, but won't tell you what it is.

A coin with any luster at all is called "Brilliant Uncirculated" or "GEM BU"

These terms are used much to liberally for my taste!
