I think the winning bidder actually believed that thing was VG-8.
  • I'd give you $30 for it.

  • No where near a VG8.

As much as I want a 1809 dime, I would wait for one better than that. You're fortunate to get outbid (IMHO)

as worn as it is, it does appear to be problem-free
  • Yea, I think if that thing sat for long enough it could probably sell for $300...maybe more if it's slabbed as a problem free coin ...agree?

I think it could sell via BIN at $350 if it was in a PCGS Fair-02 or AG-3 holder. PCGS 1809s in circulated grades are tough to come by
  • PQMorgans may have won it....I know he has been asking for one on the BST for a long time

IMO, you're lucky you didn't end up with it...

You are better off not wining this one. A nicer one will come around sometime.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • That's a poor to AG, no way is that VG8.

I think he's quoting the book on Barber coins, where is you can see three letters of LIBERTY, usually LI and Y it's VG with full rims, G4 if the rims are full but less than three letters there.

Anyways, as others said, a nicer one will come along for your collection.

That coin looks like the crappiest piece in crap town! image
  • Wondering if it's an OK coin, but simply a horribly out of focus photo: the rim and edge on the right side are far too "nebulous";

if this were a decent photograph of a nearly featureless coin, the rim and edge would be clearer. (handheld Logitech ClickSmart?? not at all intending to disparage Logitech)

I'd make a small wager (being given reasonable odds*), that portions of all letters/ most letters of Liberty are visible; and enough detail remains to make it G6 or VG8.

    * the odds would have to be long enough that I'd be able to buy a VG from the winning bidder ... image .......
WILL WORK FOR CENTS, QUARTERS, HALVES, DOLLARS....

I see the term moon money tossed around a lot in titles, then I see the numbers and im like "You cant even get half way to the moon with that". I think there should be a rule. 2x PCGS or NGC retail list minimum befor eyou get to use the term moon, and at least 500$ The other day someone posted "Tonights moon shot" and it was like a 40$ Ase or something lol.

I have search for an 1809 and I can asure you that $188.00 on that coin is not moon money. I did not purchase the coin but know of a couple coins that have sold higher. In the right forum, he could get that money back no problem. If he gets it in a PCGS holder I would buy!!
