Well, I guess the first thing I learned was to dust the coin off before taking the pic.

Otherwise, any thoughts, comments, hyperbole?

1797 H10c are a challenge to grade because the eagle on the reverse is flatly struck, as is the central hair detail on the obverse, giving the coin the appearance of a lower grade. I grade this one VF30 from the picture, and I can't pick out anything obvious that would cause the coin not to grade. Color looks original & attractive.

Wow. Very nice. I expected something much lower grade and abused-looking. (Or higher grade and unattainable by mortal beings).

You just don't see too many early half dimes with a nice, solid, original look and no distractions, which fall between the two extremes mentioned.

1797 LM-1/V-2, aka "15 stars variety" for the fifteen obverse stars. I can't tell if the die crack is there through the 9 in the date or if this is an earlier die state without the crack. Like so many of the coins you share with us every now and then, this one is awesome!
  • wow! now that is one tough find and a sweet addition to your collection, congrats!

Tough, tough coin. These issues almost never look as attractive as your coin.

Why ... that is the worst example of a 1797 half dime I have ever seen. You should just get rid of it... I mean, if you don't want it I will take it. image

I haven't shot that one yet. But I may get to it this weekend.

I'm just now getting to where any of my coin pics are worth a second look.

I really need to get a macro lens, but I'm getting by with the crop method.

    I think that's the one.

I always wish I had picked up one of those turban heads you had too. That is the coolest design evah!

Im not sure it is. I think yours had a rim bump at 5 oclock on the obverse....cant remember.

I bought another in a collection in Hawaii. Totally random. All junk morgans and silver...at the very end, he brings it out and sells an 1811 half eagle!
