Daryl, your '49 got an, "Oh, F*", out of me when I saw the pix!

    Sweet '63-D Jon!

Originally I was only going to collect Franklins from 1948-58, e.g. ones with (bar 1950) mint set toning. This 1960 made me decide to include the 1959-63 years too.

I am pretty sure this coin had help regardless of other opinions posted to the contrary.....I have seen frankies with similar toning at almost every FUN show I have ever attended and they were being sold at AT coins for $50........NGC may have blessed it with a MA and I certainly couldn't prove other wise......but....image

Does the 1961 have rpholder in it's pedigree by any chance?

what ever happened to that 1951 u recently got from him ?

as for the coin above , no way in hel I would have ever sold it if I thought it had any chance to get holdered.

Here's a '63 with some unusual toning. It's covered in red and green splotches.

Interesting/fun '63. It almost looks like someone put it in an old mint set holder that had already toned up some other half nicely, and was hoping it would tone this one up also.

This isn't "killer" or even a tough date toner but it does have beautiful gold rim toning. This is a '49 Bugs I cherrypicked off Ebay a few weeks ago in NGC64FBL. It's currently at PCGS awaiting grading and attribution.

That '49-P don't look like bugs bunny. Looks more like he needs to trim his nose hair. Cool though.

Yea it does look more like nose hair. PCGS is grading these 49's as BB's though.

Some snot- noses qualify as Bugs's, some don't. This one will methinks. In fact I would bet on it!

    ......now that's a tuff , tuff date : in fact with nice color , it's a key date .

When Franklins like that are bringing squat - it's time to bail

Wow, I'm kind of torn about the prices that toned Franklins are bringing right now. Good for buying, sucky for selling.

they are ..........unless I.m the smuck doing the bidding !

    A really tuff date to find with nice color - let alone in MS66 ;

is gonna bring strong money ( even in a depressed market) -often times multibles of what the price guide says ...........

It pained me greatly to pay that much for the '59.......

but even @ that level : I ripped it ! image

Technically it looks like a 63 but the color may give it a 64. For $12 I had to buy it.

Got it ! ............superb chrome-like A+ luster and colors stronger then pix.

All , and then some ; strong MS-66 with surfaces you wonder how possibly could have escaped the minting and handling process and not gotten marks .......

and as a plus ; has bell lines that years ago could have got the nod !

So , strong luster- near mark free ,great strike with nice rainbow tones............

    did I mention the luster ? that's the strongest point - crisp chrome-like ...........

    i seen a lot of Franklin's - more then my share ;

and I gotta wonder how coins such as this one survive with such pristine surfaces-

was it plucked right off the press ? was it struck with discarded proof dies ?

did it sit somewhere unmolested for near 50 years ??

and how many fellers wanted to bid and for whatever reason did not ?

....letting it fall into my hands image

Well it is struck from proof dies since it's a type 2. Are the surfaces PL or semi-PL?
  • Options
    PawPaulPawPaul Posts: 5,845
The surfaces are heavily die polished , especially on the obverse- so there is little trace of any mirrored surfaces .......

except in the highly recessed areas .

The eagle on the reverse is fully struck with very finely detailed features - in fact , i can not recall ever seeing a mint state Franklin with such a highly

    detailed eagle !

Thanks for pointing out the type II Luver image
