What website do you use to "share" your coin photos? POLL

DieClashDieClash Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭
I've been using Photobucket exclusively based on many recommendations from other forumites over the years. But in the past 12 months I've found this service to be extremely slow to use. I can't knock it too much, but slow is slow and I'm wondering if there isn't a more responsive free service elswhere. What do you think?

    Multiple locations.
    Hard drive.
    Backup drive (PC)
    External HDD
Imageshack (for those I want to share at some point....definitely not all the photos)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I had the Pro version of PB for a year and it was fast.
No commercials or limits on image size.
Once I let it lapse I'm back to the free version and it is getting slower by the week.

I don't use Photobucket to 'store' my images.
I use two different hard drives for all photos and I keep CD copies of family images.

I store them on my computer, and upload ones I need on the web to PhotoBucket.

Perhaps "store" is an inappropriate word. I guess I'm looking for the website to host images for uploading to sites like this or other sites. Obviously, all of my images are "stored" on my PC. But for purposes of sharing my images I am currently using the Free version of Photobucket, which has become cumbersomely slow. image

I use Photobucket and Picasa. I started with Photobucket which I heard about here on the boards. Picasa has the nice feature of uploading one photo and accessing it at different resolutions depending on how you reference it.

I used to use photobucket but I find myself using my own webspace from godaddy a lot more. I starting to host photos I take for other people as well.

Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

For ebay, it's important to use a reliable pay hosting site, or your own domain, or your ISP webspace. (Unless you
are happy with the small, overcompressed pictures that ebay provides)

If one of the ebay tattletales notices that your auction doesn't have all the required photos of the plastic on both sides
due to a slow "free" photo server, and the same thing happens when the ebay "trust and safety" people look at
it from India (even MORE likely!) your auction will be ended for "violating the counterfeit policy."

With a thousand or so photos, I feel it's important to use a site where I pay for good service. Too many free sites have disappeared in the past. There's no way I want to take those pictures over again.
    PhotoBucket for me......

My own web space. Photobucket, Flickr, and other similar sites are blocked where I work, and presumably at other places of business that just block all "media sharing" sites, so pictures come up as red X's.
  • I too, use PhotoBucket. But like others have said I also back-up important images on CDs. You never know when your computer is suddenly not going to start up for who knows whatever reason. I usually do a back-up either when I'm doing a lot of work with many images, or whenever I do maintenance to the computer (Delete Unused Files, Virus Scan, Disk Clean-Up, Disk Defragment)

just started adding coins- not exactly a preference, or recommendation. Simply a continuation. seems OK.

Reading this thread encouraged me to look around for a way to disply my collection. I have a Power Point display of my collection, and found this:
How to Put a Power Point display in Flikr or Picassa

It is very easy. I have a picassa site (with a googe GMail account) for free. It was very easy to do.

FWIW - Photobucket was really really slow yesterday. I got frustrated and closed my browser (IE 7.0). I logged back into my photobucket accounting using Mozilla Firefox browser and the performance of the site was markedly improved.

Not sure if I've got an IE browser setting that Photobucket doesn't like, but I get less headaches now using Firefox.
