Holy crap! I think I just found a...??? Updated with Pics

It's completely covered with "crust" BUT, I think I can see edge lettering. It's the size of a quarter and the layer is pretty packed on. Any suggestions on how to get it off? I'm simply soaking it in water right now. (sorry for the uncropped images, I'm on a different computer).

Edited to add: I was originally mistaken that Bust Quarters had edge lettering. They all apparently have reeded edges. Learn something every day!

    Well... I can honestly say I'm surprised with what was underneath... turned out to be a 1939 Washington quarter!! I ended up being 100 years off. It was exciting while it lasted though.

    Wow! I have never seen silver all crudded up like that before. Whenever I find silver it's always nice, bright and shiny once a little dirt is washed off; even silver War nickels come out better than that.

    What was caked on? Asphalt?
