Coin World.....Letters to the editor....

saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,728 ✭✭✭
They should rename that page "Whiners Forum".

I can't believe that a publication that promotes numismatics would publish complaint after complaint after complaint....most of which are so petty, so irrelevant...it's ridiculous.

How many times does anyone have to hear from some old geezer who hates grading because it wasn't that way in "the good old days"? 9like when, the Depression?) image

How many complaints does anyone need to read about every peccadillo regarding the US Mint? It's a damn Federal beaurocracy...what do you expect?

How many Ebay issues must be published before you toss the magazine in the trash?

Promote the game, don't turn it into some podium for every cranky collector! It's NOT Coin Complainer's World.

I'm ready to cancel. And the same is true of this place...except that the complaints are droned out by the sheer number of dazzlingly interesting threads. image

The obvious solution to the problem is for guys like you to write them some better letters - I'm sure they'd print 'em.

No kidding! Some of the one's posting whining threads on these forums could teach those CW whiners a thing or two about how to whine image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I agree. It always amazes me why people take the time to write such letters. They are entertaining, though.

I tend to disagree -- I think Coin World actually isn't all that bad.image Comparatively, Numismatic News is WAY worse than CW when it comes to those whiny letters you speak of. I happen to subscribe to both publications (CW and NN). True, you do get your occasional whiner in CW here in there, but I assure it can't even hold a candle to the plethora of whiny/offensive letters you'll find littered throughout NN.

    Gentlemen:

I am a relative rookie here - at least IMO - and though I've found myself wandering the limited isles of a couple local coin shops, the only mags I see are Numismatic News, Coin World, and COINage...

I've asked this before, without much response, and again I wonder what publications might best serve my numismatic interests? What others are there? I've noted several books on my wish list, some of which I've acquired and read. Voracious reader that I am, one of the reasons I ask the members here is that I defer to greater minds and experience than my own.

I nearly picked up one of each last week, when I picked up my UHR, but in the end, laid them back on the shelf, and walked out, bereft of the limited knowledge they might have provided - whining and all.

I suppose everyone has their opinion, and for whatever reasons, it has served you well. The trick is, can you pontificate objectively?

Exactly and one page of QDB. That alone is enough to keep my subscription going!

Likewise ... and I agree with your statement. CW is nothing compared to the whiners published on NN....oddly enough, both at times, publish the same whiner.

I suspect they print nearly all the letters they receive, so it's only a reflection of what people are writing about.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Same thing in NN. It's amazing how many saintly people there are when someone finds a rare Morgan $ in a bunch of junk.

So many of you say that because it's the LEAST whiney mag. it's OK? image

    That's absurd.

Frankly they all suck. There should be a better publication that isn't just 10 pages of print and 90 pages of ads...but that's the magazine industry these days.

Keep those complaints and letters coming!

I take it you sent in a whiny letter and it did not get posted- so you are kind of telling us this.

What were you whining about anyways?

I guess I am in the minority ... I find the letters to the editor amusing. Maybe its because I am fairly laid back about things but I find it funny that people get so worked up over a hobby that they should find relaxing and fun.

What they need is "THE GEEK on the Street" Reports.

A guy to travel coin shoppes the world over... secretly reporting to Coin World, what really goes on in the shops without ever revealing names. A sort of mystery guessing game of who screwed who and "how'd he do it" ?
