When he returns to the lineup we shall see..................If he goes 9 for 20 with 3 bombs right out of the gate, I do not see demand slowing. If he puts up typical Arod numbers for the season his cards will be back to pre-roid era prices , IMO.
The book that coming out on him and the recent allegations that he did steroids going back to his time in High School dont help matters either. If it comes out he was lying and he took steroids in addition to the times he did roids with the Texas Rangers, your going to see his cards stay depressed in value.
I just wonder who will be buying the A-rod stuff down the road. Most Yankee fans over the age of 18 apparently can't stand the guy, "he's not a real Yankee" and all of that You know BOS, TEX and SEA fans hate him so where is his market really headed?...I'm assuming ordinary baseball card buyer guy will always contribute some market but I see him already headed down the Clemens and Bonds path and everyone that actually wants top tier cards of those guys already have them so who is going to be buying them down the road. The HR record will be tainted like Bonds so I see very little if any spike there. If it comes out that he actually did spike since high school he's not getting into the HOF unless there is some steroid era wing built for all of them. I've got a SP 8.5 RC for my set that I'll keep and raw of the UD, Fleer Update and Flair that will just be in my sets but I"d never buy the real high end A-rod cards..there's just no ceiling and you know there will be more dirt to come over the years...hell his ex-wife may write a book or appear on 60 minutes someday and drop more bombs on this fraud.

Based on the inital reactions to the book, I think AROD may actually come out all right. I was listening to Buster Olney on ESPN Radio and he said that the only "evidence" that the author had is that AROD gained 25 lbs in one year during high school and that he bragged that his bench press went from 110 to 310. Not exactly a dirty syringe.
Selena Roberts is the same hack that crucified the Duke Lacrosse players a few years ago. She came from the New York Times before SI and we all know the NYT writers are self-righteous.
The biggest issue for AROD is that he hasn't played yet. If he starts off hot I think his card values will improve. Think of it this way, how much worst can it get for him?

I dunno, tipping pitches is not only disrespecting the game but his teammates as well. People say a lot of his numbers come when the game isn't on the line...
If the allegations turn out to be true, the prices would probably be comparable to a falling knife.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I have no idea how they will ever prove that A-Rod tipped off any pitches. The Rangers pitching staff s*cked during his time there, so was it tipping or just lousy pitchers?
I must take the opposing view on this assessment. I strongly feel that A-Fraud, like alot of players, has simply made the transition from steriods to HGH.
A-Fraud has demonstrated time and again that he lacks a moral compass and will lie and cheat to achieve whatever goals he has (all- time homerun record).
Even more reason I feel he is a likely candidate to be a HGH user!
"You tell 'em I'm coming...and hell's coming with me"--Wyatt Earp
"I for one don't care anymore. I just enjoy the games".
I respectfully appreciate the position of board members who say they don't care anymore about steroids.
But let us be careful here. When us fans collectively (don't care anymore) and let down our guard won't we then be creating an environment that could open the flood gates to another round of wholesale cheating in some form or another?
I think for the long-term welfare of baseball it is healthy for a segment of the fans, and people of influence, to keep PED's in the back of their minds.

To be honest, I don't know of a single modern era (1980+) card that didn't drop when the player retired and/or ran into publicity problems. Maybe I'm wrong. I just think there is too much high grade stuff from the modern era to hold the value.

I wonder if he reseals packs in his spare time? Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised!
Not much of a baseball anymore (haven't watched a game in years), but they should have a roid league and a regular league. To be in the roid league, you must take roids. I would like to see 700 ft homeruns, and 125 mph fastballs.

As for AROD, just a beast of a player. Whether you like him or not, he is one of the greatest of this generation.

I tuned out of MLB several years ago. It was a series of reasons, the Pirates annually sucking, the strikes, the fact the big market teams compete every year, the PEDs, etc. It's sad because baseball was my true passion when I was a kid. These days, I follow the NFL religiously but casually follow baseball. Ironically, when it comes to collecting, I don't collect football but instead collect vintage baseball cards from the era of when it was still just a game.
