    I'll throw out a guess in the AU53-55 range. It's a real looker Joe.image

Questionable toning. I've NEVER seen a 1921 Buffalo that looked remotely like that.

Bob's right it's an au coin, but the seller sold me this coin as an ms-64! The pictures were nowhere near the quality of mine, and by the sellers pics. I took a chance. This coin SUCKS and I don't mean that in a good way!! I have a 7 day return on this coin and it's on it's way back to it's original owner today . Thanks for your comments....Joe

Whoever graded this MS64 does not know how to grade Buffalo Nickels. The artificial toning on this coin attempts to hide the rub on the high spots. Good idea to return it. the forum member TDN said something in a thread once that I have always remebered that really is accurate. I don't want to misquote him, but he said something like....Buffalo Nickels?? There are only a handful of people in the hobby that understand the series well enough to grade them. I think that the "handful" is a bit of an exaggeration, but there is a lot a truth in that thinking!

Yes, I'd return that. It's an AU-58, not nicely toned whether natural or not (and, like others, I suspect not).

Point well taken!! But, I think anybody that wants to bad enough can learn how to grade Buffalo Nickels!! It is an on going process that I enjoy, learning! I like to buy raw coins, as I truly feel that is where the real treasures are. And this seller has sold me some very nice coins in the past, but now this coin, either he is trying to scam me or he doesn't know squat about grading buffalo nickels!! But at any rate I will send it back and be out the shipping fees. And I might add , thae sellers pictures were pretty bad and I just took a chance, You can't win them all! Thanks to all for your comments. And now I am off to the Sacramento coin show, maybe I'll see ya there....Joe

I'm not gonna pretend that I'm one of the handful, but IMO the coin is uncirculated. In fact, my guess was going to be MS64 details, AT. I don't see any actual wear on the coin, only changes in color of the toning - which is not the same.

id be willing to say its an UNC coin. Bill Fivaz taught to look at the reverse first and look for the "mesa effect" on the back hip bone..if none exists then its an unc. WEAK strike though for a 1921 buffalo..most have much more detial in the hair braides..willing to say ms 64+

That was my concern too. I like the overall meat on the coin, but the colour scares me.

I buy into this. The coloration may hide rub on the hip (which otherwise could look UNC) but a 1921-P should come very nicely struck. I would suspect that the 'weakness' above the braid, the lack of defintion on the buffalo's head hair and lack of detail on the buffalo's shoulder is not strike weakness. Plus what other's said about the color, and it looks like rub on the cheek. You'll be glad you sent this back from where it came from.
