Any interest in a Friday night group dinner at the National?

We're getting closer to the National, and I get to go this year.

Was wondering if there is any interest in doing a group dinner at one of the local places. I prefer a good steak or seafood joint, but we have plenty of time to discuss the where.

I was thinking Friday night might work.

One thing we need is a local Cleveland peep (I'm down in Columbus and do not know the area that well) to step up and offer advice/guidance/and help with the other logistics/reservation.

Let's see if we can get this going.

I'll get the list going:

1) BobS
2) Gumbyfan
3) MBMiller25
4) BPorter26
5) Rogermnj
6) mrmint23
7) BigDaddyBowman
8) Bottom9th +1
9) Jeffcbay
10) Morgoth +1

What the heck, count me in tentatively. I'm finalizing my plans for the trip, and am 99% sure I will be attending. If I'm there, I may as well join in on the group rip.

Assuming we'd buy the product from Steve Hart, perhaps BBCE would offer to host the get together?

    Hey Gumby -

I'm talking about a group DINNER, not a group rip.

I plan to bring "goody bags" to satisfy everyones ripping addiction.

Apparently my eyes are failing. I thought I saw rip and dinner in that subject line. image

I'm in for dinner, too. Steak or seafood sounds good to me...count me in.

Bob, Great idea. I would be in for a group dinner. Nice steakhouse sounds excellent to me. Put Bporter26 down on the list as well.

Big Daddy - you the man.

Perhaps you could look into a place that can handle a small crowd in a few days when we have a better idea of the number.

Also, should I include you on the reservation list?
  • BigDaddyBowmanBigDaddyBowman Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭
yes count me in.....once we get a number I will check into things...I am also going to open invites to the SGC board as well....

    BigDaddy - sounds good.

I'm heading out for the night, but will update the list in the AM. Just post here in this thread any takers from the SGC Board.

Rube - now that would be something. Does he still drive at his age?

I put in for my Summer Vacation today, if I get the week off I might be in for the road trip. I will let Ryan know for sure within a month or so, if I can attend I would love to join you guys.
  • BobSBobS Posts: 1,738 ✭✭
Mr. Burgundy - does that mean you plan on attending? You're one of the dozen or so folks on the board I need to have a beer(s) with.

    Edit - you too Perk.

I am thinking about going as well. I would be bringing my 16 year old soon too. I hope to catch an Indians game and go to the Football HOF. How far away is it from Cleveland?

Hall of Fame about 45 mins South of Cleveland...easy to get to. The hall offers a discounted pass for the Rock n ROll Hall and Football Hall.

Count me in for the dinner! I live in the Canton/Massillon area. Finding a place near Cleveland to handle a large group on a Friday night may be a chore. BDB, what about Dave & Busters? Alice Cooperstown would be cool, but may be tough on a Friday night. We should keep in mind the Tribe is playing the Tigers at home that night. Sounds like fun though! image

Wow I am jealous. Not going to make Cleveland this year. Enjoy and lets try to do this once a year. I bet if you asked Steve he might show up if someone mans his booth.
  • id be down if we go to taco bell
  • If I was going, I'd take one for the team and man the booth for Steve so he'd be able to go to the group dinner party. image)

I spoke with the Indians ticket office today and they have availability in the right field party porch section. It is in the lower bowl and is a pretty good seat for the cost. Friday night is also Fireworks night and you will have a great view of a good fireworks show. Just a thought for those coming to the National. You have to reserve atleast a block of 10 tickets, but they said they have plenty of availability.

I imagine there'll be somewhere in town where you can drop by and view the Larry O'Brien trophy that will be awarded to the Cavaliers in a few weeks.

    Bump -

Looks like dinner may be at the ballpark.

I don't have a problem with that at all. BDB - what do you think? What does everyone else think?

We still have a few months to go, but we may want to start to finalize a list of we're going to buy tickets to the game in a block.

That would be cool. I am still trying to talk my son into going. He's not a big card fan but I'm selling him on the fact we'll go to the FB HOF, and Indians game and maybe a Pirates game. We'll see.

Also, is anyone doing the VIP ticket thing? Is it worth it?

    What's in Kevin's briefcase?

A ton of high dollar modern cards and his super duper magic machine that transforms
the cards into 10s and BGS 9.5s. I think there's also a blowup doll in there.

Here is the link for the Bud Light Party Porch at Progressive Field. I am happy to help in organizing the outing, but I am afraid I will be out of town on Friday night. The Hilton Garden Inn is across the street and has very nice hospitality rooms for a group rip pre-game also.

Hey guys....this post got buried for a while..wasn't sure if the interest was still there.

.if needed, I can help advise or help make arrangements. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make a Friday night gathering....didn't realize that my parents anniversary party was that night. How dare they get married the weekend of the National!

I would be more than happy to take care of that request. Its funny....I was at the BGS booth last year in Chicago getting a card reholdered, and someone had written on the table that ShoelessJoejackson is a card doctor written on the BGS table. Kevin lives a couple exits north of me in North Carolina, and I was at a card show a couple weeks looking for him. I would love to take him out back and slap him around for 5-10 minutes.

    Bumpage...

should we be finalizing this thing soon? Getting the tickets and stuff?
  • Beck6Beck6 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭
I offered to organize the Indians game, but got very little interest in the Party Deck or even group seats. Blocks of tickets can still be purchased, but we would really need some sort of commitment to price range everyone is willing to pay and then commitment to who will go. Transportation could prove to be another problem for those staying near the IX center.
