Lincoln uncirculated dollar now "sold out"!!! watch what happens now PROOF also sold out/
It officially is listed as "sold out"!!! per the mint availability list.
Lots of them for sale at reasonable prices on e bay though.
Reasonable for now that is.
The proof appears to be gone also as the dreaded waiting list has appeared to let people know that only junk is left.

I have a few. I am not rich like some of these people that have 50 or 100.
What I don't understand is.. I thought the 500,000 limit was "across all options" (with 50,000 Proofs held back for a special set later this year..) .. so if it was 450,000 singles, both Proofs AND Uncs., then how could the Uncs. sell out, while (as I type this).. the Proofs are still available?..
OR.. was there a fixed limit (out of those 450,000) of Proofs, and a fixed limit of Uncs?.. and if so, what were those limits?..
Anyway, I expect the eBay prices to start shootin' up once word gets around that the Uncs. are all gone.. another Buffalo $ in the making? (I hope..) ..
- John Wayne, "The Shootist" (1976.. his final film)..
I was under the opinion that they were holding 50,000 uncirculated for that special with the 5 cents.
I kind if figured that there was an additional 130, 000 uncirculated and about 320,000 proofs.
<< <i>I ordered two Uncs. last weekend, based on Dave Harper's (Editor of NN) Blog posting saying they were close to a sell-out with about 20,000 left, per the figures he gets from The Mint..

I orderded 1 of each also, but got a US MINT notification that they were sold out and my order was cancelled.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
Thats why I gave up on ordering from the mint.

The set you're referring to is a proof set.
Both proofs are in stock and reserved while the uncircs are BO to 4/3

Yikes
They told you that both the Proofs and Uncs. were sold out!?..
I just checked my order status and it says "backordered, expected ship date 03 April, 2009".. the cancel box is still there.. they haven't charged my plastic yet.. I originally ordered one Unc., but based on the rapidity of sales, called the order line a couple days ago and asked if I could up it to two Uncs.. the rep said sure, made the change, I refreshed my order page as soon as she said that, and the quantity had changed from 1 to 2.. with an estimated ship date of 30 March, 2009..
I guess if you still want them, head for eBay.. prices are still close to issue price for raws.. although the Proofs still show as available on usmint.gov.. I won't pretend to understand any of this..

The special set will be a proof set - one proof dollar and four proof cents.

Mine are "in stock and reserved" -- cancel button is gone so I guess they'll be shipping soon.

Still, it seems to me that with such a quick sellout of the Uncirc's, and the likely and nearly equally fast sellout of the Proofs, would suggest there could be demand from those who want one from the only place they'll be able to get it - the aftermarket. True, there should be many available, and perhaps the graded 70's may come down, but if there truly is a long-term demand, these ought to command a bit more than $40 raw.
Methinks it is still too early to set the bar just yet. Could be some I just bought for $45 a pop might not bring more than I paid, but the down side is pretty slim, and the upside, well, is a lot brighter...
We'll have to wait and see...

Yeah...no kidding. Have you ever done anything other than "stock up"? Any type of real collecting or has it always been about the flip?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

will be substantially higher then they are today. While they might
not be a grand slam, they will be a two base hit.. If you have the
pair as PCGS, MS & PR 70s you will be a real winner.

I completely agree with bear on this one.
"Only 2,132 coins remained in Mint hands of the 450,000 pieces that were being offered to collectors individually as this paper was being deadlined.
A further supply of 50,000 proofs is being held for use in a special set that will be offered later this year. That would bring total mintage to 500,000, a figure not reached for a commemorative silver dollar in many years."
But he doesn't say what the last Silver $ Commemorative was that totally sold out.. I THOUGHT it was the Buffalo $ almost a decade ago.. someone else in another Lincoln Commemorative thread said Ben Franklin and the Marines Silver $ Commemoratives had also totally sold-out.. I don't remember that being the case, but I could be wrong.. Anyone remember for sure if both of those totally sold out?..
I'm really not that surprised that the Lincolns went so fast.. considering this is kind of Lincoln anniversary frenzy year in at least two ways (200nd Anniversary of his birth, 100rd anniversary of the Lincoln Cent..) .. so almost anything Lincoln-related is hot stuff..
I still don't understand how the Uncs. sold out but the Proofs are still available.. normally, The Mint doesn't allocate a fixed number for Proofs and a fixed number for Uncs.. only a fixed number for special sets..

<< <i>They will go nowhere. Perhaps the proofs may spark some demand when they finally sell out, but the UNCs are just plain ugly in this issue >>
Really? I actually like the look of the unc a lot. Maybe more than the proof...
as you have to be right.

Less than half the mintage, I will definitely hold onto a few perfect ones. Next year these will be higher for sure, you only have to look at the way they have been selling day in day out on the bay, then factor in all the dealers selling them elsewhere

I bought 0 of each.
The Mint just released the Braille Commemorative, what, yesterday?.. I don't see (no pun intended).. people pushing each other out of the way to scramble to grab that one, and I suspect that's another one that will never sell-out its legislated total..
If the Mint were to ever put Walt Disney on a Silver $ Commemorative, I'd bet you dimes to donuts that it would sell out so fast you'd get whiplash watching it go.. there are legions of Disneyana collectors out there who WOULD push each other out of the way for such a coin.. a Mark Twain coin might likely have the same kind of mass appeal that transcends just coin collectors..

I would not order any now as all you will get is the leftover junk that has been returned to them.

<< <i>I think that if you are buying more than X amount of a given issue then you should forfeit return privileges. That way flippers can't drop their non-gradable stuff back on the Mint. >>
It always surprises me why one group always wants to make rules for another group. Why dont non-flippers just make sure they buy what they want before there is a sellout? That way, they wont buy returned stuff and they wont have to come up with ways to govern the actions of others.

The "rule" would apply equally to all groups. That way the hoggish would bear some responsibility for what they are buying instead of picking the cream and dropping the lower end stuff back on the smaller guys who get left with the scraps just because they were unable to take time from work to go sit at a computer or keep hitting redial on a phone for an hour to get their order placed in time. Even though I am a dealer and often sell to non-flippers who missed the boat, it still irks me that larger volume guys like the tv scammers get this stuff in hand the day it debuts and have it already slabbed. Some are more equal than others, it seems. I think that order limits can be a good thing. Gives the smaller guy a chance before all the flippers suck the stuff up.

Often they will pay the higher rate to next-day slab a few pieces for the purpose of showing on air, then submit the rest 5-day, 7-day...in short, they pre-sell many of them before they're actually slabbed.
