hmm. sorry to hear that, but don't complain too much. i have sent items to sgc that have come back as 5's too even though they are moderns and fresh out of the pack. just because it's pack fresh doesn't mean it's mint.

yea...but I checked that card over and over, and would of bet anything it would of gotten atleast a 9...There is noway that is a PSA 5!

PSA 5 usually means there's a surface wrinkle or back crease. Sometimes, these are easily missed. Also looks like everything else was "at least a PSA 8" as you expected. Not sure what the gripe is other than the long turnaround.

If you saw the longoria before it went out, you to would be in disbelieve...As for the others, I know all the colts stuff got undergraded, I know for sure the masterpiece Mannning was way better than an 8. I thought for sure a 10 on that one. The Griffey and Johnson were pack fresh, and looked like 10s also. I just do not believe I overgraded each of these cards by 2 grades?

You say everything was 8 or better, so your gripe is only on 2 cards? I don't think that qualifies for a thread as one is OC which is prretty easy to determine and the other is most likely a back crease.

Is it just me or is anyone else sick of the b*tching about grades. Get over it! Just because it came straight from a pack means nothing. Go across the street to the Church of Rube and submit there.

    P.S.-And don't use words you can't spell(ridiculous)

Did you ever think that maybe it was the submitter and not the grader? Judging by the PSA 9 OC Sandberg rookie, I suspect your grading eye may not be as sharp as you think. 1983 Topps are fairly easy to determine if they are OC.

I'd go a step further by saying I'm sick of the whining in general. "I don't like this seller', or 'My turnaround times are too slow'. 'Shipping fees are too high', 'I got a PWE when I paid $3 for S&H', blah blah blah. Almost everyone here's a grown man, and that fact which has two implications.

    1) Grown men don't care if other grown men are getting bent over on card deals. Just because it's a big deal to you does not, in any way, mean that anyone else here has the slightest bit of interest in your plight. If any of us wanted to listen to whining we'd ask our wives how their day at work went.

    2) Grown men should not whine in the first place.

If there is a next time, go ahead and scan the card as ask for our opinions on this board before you send them in, we'll let you know the brutal truth. As for an EX 5, two things happened...you missed a back crease OR it was damaged from shipping. I'm not sure how they grade finger prints either. Your off center 83 told me that your "eye" for grading may not be as experienced as others from this board. Again, scan your next sub and we'll give our opinion on it.

Sensitive maybe, the key word being WE... that includes you.

Do you think that a paying customer has no right to gripe? Maybe he doesn't, and if anyone remarked that he should wait til the card gets home so he can re-evaluate it, I'd have no problem with that. And if anyone wants to tell him he's a whatever, I have no problem with that either.

If PSA wants to address this problem, they will. Maybe they don't need a spokesman like you telling their customers to just go away and deal with their competition.

I have no idea what your relationship with Randy is. But you know as well as everyone that he's not here to read your crappy comparison about him. So why don't you explain why it's not an insult towards him.

So now that we've established that you're a spokesman for PSA. Why don't you go ahead and tell us why you think their paying customers should go to the competition?
  • Options
I would have to think that if someone were truly unhappy with the results of their submission, wouldn't a well worded letter to PSA themselves be more effective than a post on their forums? Not that I don't think there's a time and a place for such complaints, but I would think that emailing PSA's customer service department stating what you're most upset about would seem to me be the best course of action.

But as others have said, your complaint was that every card you submitted should have been an 8, it looks like other than the Longoria (which is more than likely a minor surface wrinkle you may have missed in your inspection), every card came back as an 8, 9, or 10? I'm not sure that a complaint over one card warrants the kind of statement saying 'never going to send to them again!'?

Again this is just my view, and it's not meant to be critical of your post, but if your complaint truly is over just one card (as your post would lead us to believe), then why wouldn't you try emailing or calling PSA to get the card resubmitted?

If you feel the Longoria is under graded then just crack and resub. I recently had an 89 UD Griffey Jr. grade a psa 5 and after a crack and resub the same card came back a 9 the next time around. Even though it kind of sucks you sometimes need to play their game. You need to remember that it is not a robot grading your cards. People can make mistakes; I sure know I have in the past. I wouldn't give up on PSA just because of one bad sub.

Modern PSA 5's are almost always refractor lines or a scratch in the surface gloss that isn't even a deep scratch.

The grading schemes - that means "methods and policies" for Americans -
    are all proprietary.

It is not an unfair business practice to keep them as such.

A grader only owes reasonable adherence to a set of standards that are
open to extremes in subjective interpretations.

    Nothing actionable going on here.

    Storm888,

... and you're right. No, it wouldn't be a meritorious lawsuit. But if you want answers into how things "work" at PSA, you're going to have to do some discovery and take some depositions because PSA sure as heck isn't going to tell you voluntarily.

It's never going to happen though because an unmeritorious lawsuit can be dangerous and it is simply too much to risk, e.g., paying yours AND their attorneys' fees. The closest we came was the whole WIWAG mess.

    Michael,

Sorry to see you didn't get the Longoria poppage you expected. Also sorry to see that when you are down, some here like to "give you a kick" and then others join in to spit on you.

Be happy you are not a girl, maybe "the mob" would have done a "gang bang"? image

I just got poppage on the first part of my February special (25 cards of a 36 card set from 1939). Why the other 11 cards didn't pop yet? Oh well, I better not complain about it! LOL!

BTW Michael, complaining and questioning PSA about grading on these threads, over the long run. keeps PSA on their toes, and has helped get things changed. (As recently as the Jordan grading error!). To bad your complaining bothers others. Just take being made fun of and berated by a few here "in stride" and with a "grain of salt". It means little!

And do not let your passion for the hobby wain over it and over bad "Longoria poppage".

    Good luck!

    rd

Notice I got a 4 on one card, a 9 OC on another. I didn't recall any card in this set that bad? Nor did I expect an "OC" (Figured it would just grade lower?)..

See Michael, I have a "bad eye" too! image

By Michael posting his dismay over PSA 5 Longoria poppage, as tough as it may be for some to read these "complaint posts", just remember, "knowledge rules"!

What do I mean? (well, I'm not sure?) image

But I'll give it a whirl:

    1. Who learned that an expected high grade may have been extinguished by the PSA grader because of a "surface wrinkle or back crease"?

    2. And who here learned that, "...Modern PSA 5's are almost always refractor lines or a scratch in the surface gloss that isn't even a deep scratch.".

So even such a bad thread about someone complaining about a PSA 5, and then the typical "sarcastic posts" that followed, there is still some good knowledge to be gained?

Maybe one of those who "complained about the complainer", or the few who just made wise-@rse remarks, just might notice a small surface wrinkle or that tiny back crease, or even that "refractor line", the next time they do a sub of modern material? image

Nah, they already knew all that stuff, and have good eyes! image

    Wow, what a thread.

If someone wants to gripe about grades, have at it. I prop PSA when I think they get it right (more often than not) and rip them when I disagree (occasionally). About half the time when I disagree, I'm the one who got it wrong.......I didn't examine my own stuff close enough before I sent it in. And there are times when PSA gives us all gifts that we didn't deserve. I don't know if it all evens out, but I do know at the end of the day it's just a piece of cardboard.

99% of the time when I get the "wrong" grade I look closer and find PSA was right... or at least arguably right. We all look at cards with rose colored glasses! Most of us have gotten one or two PSA 5's that we were sure were 9's or 10's. That's an easy mistake to make. The OC, however, is for a novice in my opinion. I don't think I have gotten an OC on a 1960 or later card in many years.
