Neat silver proof ike dollar counterstamp...

I picked this up at the B&M, and thought I'd share. Anyone know anything about who made it? I've heard of counterstamped Ike and Peace dollars, but never a silver proof Ike! It looked like it may have been in some type of holder for a long time- it was covered in PVC. Here it is, post-acetone and dip...

It is odd that the obverse is not distorted more.

i'd bet anything that is one of his counterstamp designs. it is kind of aloof how many different ones
are out there, check a forum search for a thread on that. there was some mention of a book coming out i believe.
<< <i>The obverse is slightly distorted, where the edge of the counterstamp is. There is no affect on the design at all. I didn't think about it until you pointed it out, but that is really interesting. How'd they do that? >>
Possibly the obverse was laying on a piece of thick leather to protect the obverse design from being flattened.

I will be emailing Mel tomorrow with any questions you may have regarding his counter struck designs. The more that are found, the more I wonder how the pops were affected.

Four posts in eight years? I would agree with you.
I am greatly honored with your interest in my counterstamps. Yes the Truman counterstamp is mine. I finally did some research and found 21 different counterstamps that I did from 1976-1984 plus some rare trial strikes, etc. I would like to publish these with pictures. Any idea who or where I can publish this information? Please send your ideas to my email address numismel@aol.com.
Happy Collecting,

(also there shouldnt be a period after the S in Harry S Truman, as "S" was in fact his middle name and did not stand for anything)

OMG!
I love the way some of your coins have come out and try to gather as many as I can (when nobody is looking!)
The name is LEE!
Do you know how many of the Harry S Truman coins you made? Also, how did you counterstamp them, and keep the distortion to such a minimum?

When are you going to publish the updated article we discussed?
