Neat silver proof ike dollar counterstamp...

I picked this up at the B&M, and thought I'd share. Anyone know anything about who made it? I've heard of counterstamped Ike and Peace dollars, but never a silver proof Ike! It looked like it may have been in some type of holder for a long time- it was covered in PVC. Here it is, post-acetone and dip...

It is odd that the obverse is not distorted more.

i'd bet anything that is one of his counterstamp designs. it is kind of aloof how many different ones
are out there, check a forum search for a thread on that. there was some mention of a book coming out i believe.

Possibly the obverse was laying on a piece of thick leather to protect the obverse design from being flattened.

I will be emailing Mel tomorrow with any questions you may have regarding his counter struck designs. The more that are found, the more I wonder how the pops were affected.

You're right. I'd even posted in that thread but guess it went on and i never looked back at it. Mel aint saying much is he, come on' mel out with it. how many of these are out there.

I am greatly honored with your interest in my counterstamps. Yes the Truman counterstamp is mine. I finally did some research and found 21 different counterstamps that I did from 1976-1984 plus some rare trial strikes, etc. I would like to publish these with pictures. Any idea who or where I can publish this information? Please send your ideas to my email address numismel@aol.com.

Do you know how many of the Harry S Truman coins you made? Also, how did you counterstamp them, and keep the distortion to such a minimum?
