Help with a first spouse gold coin question - Open sealed box or sell sealed?

jessewvujessewvu Posts: 5,078 ✭✭✭✭✭
A friend of mine bought 5 of the Martha Washington First Spouse Gold coins and has left them in a sealed box. I told him I could sell them for him but I was wondering should I send the coins in for grading or open them and sell individually. They DO qualify for the First Strike designation.

  • If you sell on ebay, sell as opened box. Trust but verify. Too many scammers these days.

I do not have a strong basis for this opinion, but my gut feeling is that this one is played out and will sell for near melt no matter how you sell it. Therefore, I would sell open, too.

Jesse, eBay completed auctions would indicate: sell with good scans showing an OPEN BOX. Not cost effective to have them graded...

BTW open boxes are selling in the range of: $500+ .... as mentioned before ... tied in to the bullion price of Gold + an approx 10% premium
