Sometimes this hobby cracks me up as do some collectors.. AGE vs ASE.

Let's compare.. Many people are stating that the 2009 UHR Gold Double Eagle is not so rare and will be worth melt in a PCGS MS 70 First Strike slab in a year or so.

But, some people are paying the same price for a 2008/07 ASE PCGS MS 70 first Strike.

The average price is around $2,500.00

Opinions are one thing.. But suicide is another.. Maybe that's why we haven't seen our last depression in the U.S. in my time here.

This is why they call this hobby coin collecting..image

So who rather have a oz of Gold vs a ounce of Silver at the same price?image

There is always a person that is reckless with their money.. Hell I sold a 1967 Gto for $11,000 back in 1979 for a 1978 for pinto. I can understand my mistakes.. I just hope others can also.image

Please provide the facts about where many folks have predicted melt for UHR's PCGS 70. Or is just more hyperbole to start an argument?

A lot of people chase after...
I think it's better to set the pace, rather than to chase after.

IrishMike, it's not a predition, it's just the talk on these forums and a few people at a coin show in my area this past weekend.

What I meant is... How can people say that a 2009 UHR in Ms 70 PCGS slab will be worth melt in a year or so, because PCGS is giving 70's out like candy?

THis is stated in many threads on here, I can't pinpoint all of them, there are too many. The facts are 08/07 Ase is fetching a average of $2,200/$2,500 on the bay just as the UHR's AGE's in PCGS 1st stike slabs.

People are stating the UHR's will be worth melt in a few years. Well if someone pays $2,500 for a silver bullion variety and don't think that will ever tank, they haven't been in the hobby long enough Mike.

    That's where I am puzzled.image

My talk might be cheap, but the sales do not lie..

And if every time someone posts a true senerio, why should there be a arguement?

I am trying to see why people say this and say that. A variety of any sort should not be viewed as investment/value in a collection.

Gold will never tank to $13.00 a ounce Mike, if it ever does I will buy all of yours and your friends and their friends until I can't open my freakin front door. That's a fact not a prediction..image

Joe, that Pinto got me 18 miles per gallon when I got my first job. I had to drive 52 miles each way.. My baby 67 Gto only got 5 miles to the gallon and that was driving at 30mph.image

    I am glad I didn't blow up.image

    I see your point.

It could be that the UHR will never fit into any set . . . It's a stand-alone coin.
There are alot of folks that collect ASEs and want these for their sets.

Maybe history/trends come into play. The Spouse coins are selling for around melt - raw, last I checked & this is with a limited mintage of 20,000 between two finishes. The '06 proof Buffalos sell for around melt - raw. etc. . . etc. Not sure what the MS-70s will do, but it looks like alot of UHRs are making PCGS-70 but PCGS-70 08/07s are pretty scarce. . . Just a thought.

    Regards,

    John
Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

Even the PCGS 1st strike 69's are doing ok for only being a year out. There is a good demand for them.

I sure don't expect AGE's to get milk spots.. I know and have heard multi ASE's are getting spots, this could be the low pop cause.

Also one other thing, many people don't submit a ASE for slabbing except Robert Chambers.image

I am pretty sure 80% of that figure of 169 are from members on these boards buying and flipping for quick profit..

Lastly what I am trying to find out, is why would you buy a ASE 08/07 variety vs. owning 2 and a half ounces of that yellar stuff and hold monetary value for a long, long time, compared to a misprint. I have made mistakes in this hobby many times, but not at huge $$$. It's foolish to pay that for 1 oz of silver bullion, but to each it's own..image

What we have here are liquid tangibles. Collectible to some and tradeable to others. Fluid currency in a current market that is fluid.

"People" collect what they like to collect and will pay whatever they have to for an item they like OR think will appreciate in value. It doesn't matter whether it is Mint issued bullion or cents or dollars....gold, silver, copper or platinum

Why some "people" collect comic books is beyond me...they are just comic books and have no intrinsic value

Who would have been nuts enough to pay $35,850 in 2006 for a Superman #1 ...IT"S ONLY A COMIC BOOK!

Oh......it just sold for $317,200 last week? image
