False Advertising on PCGS Site - What should be done? ** Update PCGS Says they monitor and Will Blo

As we all know, there are ads on wide varities of web sites. These ads are ovten supplied by companies other than the one running the web site. No different with PCGS. The shortfall comes when the credibility of advertisements detracts from the credibility of the site and thus the company whose site it is.

Case in point today, this ad was on the PCGS site, supplied by google.

All Coin Buy 1 Get 1 Free
Maple Leafs, Eagles, Krugerrands Buffalos All Buy 1 get 1 free plus
BuySilverAndGoldBullion.com

When I followed the link, I did not find what was advertised. (not at all surprised...)

So the question: Should the company hosting the web site have a standard they hold advertiser to, in order to uphold their own reputation?

I don't see the add that you are referring to ... do you have a link?

Never mind...it's a pop up ... and I've got a pop up suppression that will not allow me to see it.

If the MEDIA is responsible for what is put out , are they the cause of moral decay ?

I wish we would investigate reporters and put them under the limelight for what they say. If every papparazzi had to submit to the same standards they put their subjects under, there'd be a whole lot less flashbulbs going off.

    Food for thought.

I think it's just one of those things where you get a little too "bottom line" oriented, and it comes back to bite you in the bottom, but due to their orientation, no one will care.

That's a Google ad. PCGS has no control over what Google ads are on this site.

Most of the ads come from Google now. A lot of money comes in from such ads, and go up with traffic and on click throughs. The ads will vary based on the key words in the thread you are viewing, and come from the huge pool that signs up with Google. PCGS can not easily selectively filter such ads so not much can be done. You might report them, but to whom? Google? PCGS? Good luck with either of those. In the old days, PCGS sold banner advertising and had much more control, but much less ad revenue, and much more book keeping. Those days aren't coming back.

That's not entirely true. PCGS can control the category but not the content.

I am sure that PCGS follows the link to verify where it goes when it is first submitted, but how can they continuously monitor where that link leads in the future. It would be impossible without having several employees dedicated to following each link 24/7 a cost that would drive them out of business. The only thing they can do is hope an links that go array are reported to them so they can take proper action.

You can also block "adsense" ads from specific advertisers -- quite easy to do actually.

Really, the ads by Google are dynamic and just react to what is posted. The adds have more to do with some of the weeds that post here. Maybe someone is just saying they don't like being around weeds and need to move on.

Yes. Please report it to PCGS so that they can address the issue.

Provide specifics though or expect to get ignored.

I followed the links on the page and, to me, it looks like an information link which links to other search links.

While it is a bit misleading, it doesn;t look like it links to a "specific" seller. It looks like it links to a conglomeratation of sellers that have paid flat rate fees for links to their web sites.

We already block a number of ads and will take care of this one. Please report any offenders to me at my email address: dwillis@collectors.com

We cannot proactively control what Google sends to us. We continually police our sites and react to bogus ads by blocking offending advertisers from appearing.

By the way ads help defray the cost of this message board.

I see nothing wrong with the ads... Hell the prices they charge for 1 kugerand, they should give you 2 free at that price...
