Yes I read the comments from a few members trying to speculate on the justification for the increase. Sorry, smoke and mirrors.
The statement quoted, Mr. Willis made to a few post had nothing to do with “insurance” and “would it matter of you were cracking out a $100,000 coin vs. a $100 coin” implies to the level of care / time needed to perform the task.. My point, it should not matter what the value of the coin is, the same level of care / time allotted to perform the task should be the same with all due care taken to insure the coin is protected and unharmed.

I'm sure they're quite careful with all the coins they receive...
But you can be dam sure they're more careful with a $100,000 coin than a $100 coin.
I wish the students in my business classes would debate topics like this! They have to be constantly reminded it is an interactive class! But...some of you guys amaze me.

Probably because the disruption to the system slows them down too much. $20 a coin turns a profit in a smooth sailing process, but like the Visa commercial where someone wants to pay cash - throwing something different in causes all kinds of havoc and hidden costs.
> Kentucky said he wants coins that actually crossed to be TV'd, ergo they are now in the raw, pre-TrueView!
Exactly. I have at least 10 coins I would like to see go PCGS. Each is a nice coin. I would be willing to spend $20 each for Truview. I can understand no Truview for something that won't cross. If the coin crosses then why can't it be photographed as it moves out of the other TPG into PCGS?
> Probably because the disruption to the system slows them down too much
It's also possible they lose a bit of revenue because I end up saying not having the photo option makes it not really worth my time and trouble to do the crossing. If the coins I want to cross weren't worth having Truview I guess this would be a moot point. As it is, the added value of the Truview does, in this case, factor into my decision.
This is a rare case I don't have a problem with a price increase from PCGS.
I take a lot of photo's and I'll tell ya, it takes time to get a quality photo, put it on the computer, prep it for the template, post it online etc....
The previous $10 was a steal.
Besides, it makes the $10 Mark asks look really good now and some other folks like my self ask for less because we do it for fun.
Dunno how I missed this thread before. I did not read all of the posts but I think TDN hits the nail square on the head with each and every post to this thread (TDN, that may well apply to every post you have authored but since I haven't read 'em, I had to insert the caveat. )
Sure, this may well present opportunity for other photogs.
At the end, I am sure the feedback to this is appreciated, entertaining, and more by Don Willis!! Fundamentally, it is comical how some are content to draw conclusions about the business judgement applied without all of the facts. Only some of us know that important decisions like this are made by the flip of a coin slab!
A rethink on my previous answer, They should have a discount for 5 or more coins say $15.00-$17.00 and 10 or more $10.00-13.00 25 or more $5.00-$ 8.00 Or at least some price break, even if its at a slow time for them they can offer a special price for existing members.
Would be a nice quarterly special to be able to submit coins on this suggested price scale.
And one last thing, if I may just vent a little. Why do they not offer True View on a crossover? This one boggles the mind. They have the coin, it is out of the old holder in hand before it is put into the new holder. Whats up with that?
Seriously, we are reviewing every program we have to ensure consistency, accuracy and the highest level of service. Your thoughts and opinions are always welcome.
Trueview has been a bargain at $10, and is still a good value at $20 for certain coins. If PCGS were to "ensure...the highest level of service" they should consider reviewing the following Trueview policy:
• The TrueView service must be requested for ALL coins on an order.
I'm sure changing this policy creates logistical challenges in the grading room, and would slow order processing even more for partial picture orders, however I would not mind the additional wait and would consider this a big upgrade in service.
Pricing is strategic. Photographing is a service. If it enhances their main business it is worth providing . If it detracts fom the main business and does not increase competiveness then it will be priced to accomodate thiose that desire it but not priced to encourage it.
Wow. It's not like you have to pay to access the data stored in the photo of your own coins after you pay to have it graded, why that would be like....hmm.

I will get more then my $20.00 back in return if I ever sell this one.

Now that the TrueView pricing has gone up 100%, it would be nice to see a box on the submission form for TrueView.
I would also like to see more mention on the PCGS Website of this service, as it is an enhanced value-added option for your customers.
Phil is a forum icon.....PCGS should give him major kudos, now that you have asked for more "skin in the game" from us club members.
Thanks in advance.

ps. I have over 40 TrueView's in my collection.
I would like to ask again why Truview is not allowed on crossover coins that do cross. Is there any good reason for that policy?

I'm afraid for me also.

I'm guessing they don't want to spend the time shooting through plastic, especially NGC plastic, which can come very ugly.
