i agree,i love the red flips and my 52 topps autoed set should be #1 in something in psa/dna period-- instead- im relegated to # 72 on the regular registry- because it dont go in the psa/dna registry-which is stupid, so the only place i have to put it is with the regular cards, and its 1,000 times harder to do than the regular cards????? they are autoed, and they are real
if they would let red and blue flips together-there might be more than 3 or 4 people on the cards in psa/dna
dont get me wrong, its a great concept, there is just the wrong rules about flips though, it should be all about if the auto is real of not, who cares if an auto has a grade or not? that dont interest most people working on slabbed sets in the least, some people you do well just to find thier auto on a specific year of card to begin with-autoed set collectors like greg m, or reese will tell ya the same thing and thats the tooth, huh barry
You said it Rube ! The Psa/Dna set registry in my opinion, should have been built with the difficulty of the autograph in mind and not the medium it is on. I had to come up with a few composites for Psa sets when I started them, The Psa/Dna registry should have been started the same way. Since it looks like most of the sets in the new Psa/Dna registry are any medium type sets anyway, Why would they penalize owners of blue flip authentic cards?
I would say that the majority of Psa/Dna "graded" autos are of the authentic variety anyway. Look at E-bay for example, the authentic grade out numbers any other grade issued by Psa/Dna by 3 to 1 at least.
by the way, I did send Joe an E-mail.................
Joe,
As a long-time collector of autographed cards could you please explain to me why the decision was made to completely remove blue-flip cards with the "authentic" designation from any form of Psa/Dna set registry competition ?
Red -flip cards are allowed in Psa's regular set registry with a designation of 1. Why cant blue flip cards be held under the same regard in the Psa?Dna registry ?
Thanks, I look forward to your response

hi joe, i have a question, most guys on here that are set collectors of autoed cards could really care less what the grade of an auto is, as long as it is in their set and is real,

Even though this special will not apply to me (I don't really collect autos), it is a very generous special that will make MANY people happy. Thanks PSA/DNA!
Honestly, I had no idea they "graded" autographs... I thought they just "authenticated" them. I thought the grade pertained to the card itself. *shrugs*

I am not sure how this is going to work on cards. Perhaps blue flip with a number the auto is graded, red flip with the number the card is graded.

I was not able to be on the boards last night and I am reading this for the 1st time today. I have to admit I was somewhat confused but if I am reading this correctly the following scenario would be correct:
I have a number of regular cards with autographs that will be authenticated for free and the autograph (not the card) will also be graded for free....but it will cost me 10 bucks to encapsulate them.... Can I assume this is correct or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for the information. this sounds like a great offer if what I am understanding to be true is correct.

As far as the special, you pay for the authentication and the encapsulation, the grading (giving it a number rather then just "Authentic") is free.

What some people seem to be getting hung up on is that "authenticating" the autograph (telling you if it is real or not) and "grading" the autograph (telling you on a scale of 1 to 10 how nice it is) are two different things.
<< <i>What some people seem to be getting hung up on is that "authenticating" the autograph (telling you if it is real or not) and "grading" the autograph (telling you on a scale of 1 to 10 how nice it is) are two different things. >>
Yeah, I am sure the special is good for some people. Like the signed baseballs. I have a Frank Thomas PSA DNA ball that has no number graded like I see many of the PSA DNA balls on eBay have.
I think the problem with us card people, that collect the sets that would fit this, (Heisman, HOF, Packers...I think there are a couple others) is we are not really sure how that part of the registry is going to look. As noted you could use any, then you could only use blue, now you need blue with numbers I guess. I have to wonder, will these sets even remain in the PSA registry...but rather would they not be moved to the PSA DNA registry now they are trying to get it going? Hard to collect something when you don't exactly know what the something is. Judging by Joe's e-mail to Rube, and Carol's response, no one really knows yet.
What Randy would like to see, and many others, myself included, is that all you could use blue and red for "Authentic" or a grade of 1...to be able to use them in the same set. Due to the way it is now you could have the signed cards graded 3-4 ways...and not be able use them as a set.

Hi Carol: Perhaps an example would help, especially for someone like me who has not sent in items for autograph authenticity before. I have a 1954 Detroit Tiger Team signed baseball, probably in NM-Mint condition. It has 25 signatures.
1. What would it cost me for authentication with this special? 2. What would I get for that cost if I sent it in without this special? 3. What will I get if I send it in with this special?

Without looking up who is on that ball let’s say the authentication fee is $100 for the ball. Depending on who the premier signer is it could be more Link to fees
1. If you would like to have the autographs authenticated and the ball graded with out this special the fee would be $100 (authentication fee) + $100 grading fee for a total of $200. (plus shipping)
2. If you were to have the autographs authenticated and the ball graded with this special the fee would be $100 (authentication fee) + $0 (grading fee) for a total of $100 (plus shipping.
3. If you want to have the autographs authenticated and not have the ball graded the fee would be $100 plus shipping. This special would not be for you.
There seems to be some questions regarding the way the new Autograph Registry works and why we require the autographs to be graded.
It really is very simple...the only way you can distinguish between the quality of each set is to rank the quality of the autographs within a category.
The only way to rank the quality is to have them graded.
For example, you may have 50 people who all complete a 500 HR Club single-signed ball collection. If they are all complete and if we allowed people to register them without grades - we would have a 50-way tie.
That being said, we may - and I repeat, may - consider opening up the non-competitive section of the Registry called Collector's Showcase to non-graded autographs.
I do appreciate the feedback and, as the Registry evolves, we will be listening to suggestions from hobbyists.
The 1954 ball has Al Kaline as the main signature. So it sounds like it would be $100 to have the signatures authenticated plus an extra $20 because Kaline is the premier signer, for a total of $120. The ball would also be graded at no cost, a savings of $100. Sounds like a winner to me.

Hi Carol!

2. What would I get for that cost if I sent it in without this special?
3. What will I get if I send it in with this special?
Thanks. >>

Hello All,
There seems to be some questions regarding the way the new Autograph Registry works and why we require the autographs to be graded.
Take care,

The 1954 ball has Al Kaline as the main signature. So it sounds like it would be $100 to have the signatures authenticated plus an extra $20 because Kaline is the premier signer, for a total of $120. The ball would also be graded at no cost, a savings of $100. Sounds like a winner to me.
