One thing I'm certain of -- I don't like the big hit on coin B's face.
I bet you're going to announce coin B is certified as a 58. Right?

For southern gold, I have seen a wide range of coins in NGC AU-58 holders, many of which were no better than 55 at PCGS (and I have submitting experience which backs this up), and many were dipped out coins that were not worthy of consideration for anyone who even considers even an iota of originality in their purchasing decisions.
Perhaps we have reached the point where the TPG grade does not matter very much, as the price and grade for Coin B have significantly decoupled. People are buying the coin, not the holder.

It certainly seems to matter less than it did a year or two ago.

........coin b has less wear but more hits and less luster. i'd pass on both, myself.

I agree that B is a better strike.... but I would look again at the rev....... there seem's to be quite a bit of "rub" on that bird.

In my experience, overgraded AU gold in NGC holders is not limited to the southern mints. It may be true
for MS pieces as well, but I don't play in that sandbox so much...
<< <i>I disagree with the premise. To me, neither coin is "AU-anything" -- both are EF. >>
Wouldn't that just be striking weakness?

............that's one reason i would pass.
To give an honest, accurate answer, the pictures simply must be taken under similar lighting conditions.
