Where'd you read about this?

I've never heard of one but I definitely need to look for this when I search rolls of cents.

People often find close AMs with a small gap but they are still close. Die polishing can cause gaps on close AMs. To be a real wide AM also requires the correct FG placement and other differences in the rev die (needs to be the proof rev design with bus strike finish).

Unless it was verified by experts it might not be a true story. If it is real we need pics

So I wonder if all of the 96 wide AM's have a rotated die?

Those '92 close AM's are pretty rare. I think there's only 1 '92 known and only a small handful of the 92-D.

Just looking through a file I've made on what to look for in pocket change from all reports and I came across this entry.

1996 - wide AM (tentatively reported to exist per Charles D.)

I wonder if coppercoins will weigh in on this subject?
I'm pretty sure the note is a year old.

.............i'm surprised, after looking thru so many lincolns, that you only saw THREE!!!!

So how rare are the '96 Wide AM's? What is there value?



I went into this thinking I would search 1 million coins in 2009.... Within that search I hope/expect...

1992 P or D Close AM... If I'm lucky one would be nice!

1999p Wide AM. I estimated 1 per 25K... or 40 to 50 1999 Wide AM examples. So far I'm on pace.

100+/- of the less rare '98 and '00 Wide AM... so far I'm on pace.

Also searching for other varities and accumulating roles for later search of the other significant DDO/DDR dates.

It's frustrating and monotonous at times. Generally, I set aside groups of coins and when I take a break I either roll them or examine them under the microscope. A $25 brick a day would be a very good pace. Generally I do half that...

The differences in the wide AM and narrow AM cents (or proof and circulation) strikes was mentioned on Collectors' Clearinghouse Articles in 1998 and 1999. I considered the possibility that there might be business strikes of the proof version. By late 1999 I was searching through every late date cent.

In early June 2000, I found my first wide AM 2000 cent. By July 2000, Bill Edwards had found a wide AM 1998 cent. I was anxious to document all of this, but then I found a wide AM 2000 cent that was due to die polishing. I felt I had to mention the die polishing, but never figfured out how to do it without sounding like an idiot. "Hey fellows, we have a sensational wide AM variety here, but don't get fooled by the die polish ones!" That sounds very weak to me.

so far im up to 7500 coins searched ( 3 boxes)

So far i have the following

92- 0
92d- 0
96-0
97- 0 ( i expect one to exist someplace )
98-1
99-0
00-1
------
total = 2 or 1 in 3,750 coins.

I wonder if this is a good % or not.

Dunno if it's a good percentage. Years ago I found a 200 Wide AM, and it was after looking thru about 400+ cents of that date. >>

I have looked at the back of every cent dated 1993 and later (thus including 1997) since 1999. I have found 1 1998 wide AM and some 2000's. I looked through many solid rolls of 2000's from the banks and found none at all. In one batch I found some wide AM's due to die polishing, but the FG was not the variety. In contrast, a waitress friend saved me batches of 2000's from circulation. She usually gave me 600 at a time and I would usually find 2 wide AM's in the batch.

Post the pictures here so we can see them. I am personally not a fan of going to some other website unless it is one I am familiar with. If you did truly find one, congrats though. That's a good find.
