looks like a juiced scan and an overgraded card.
  • Options
I agree about the scan. Those borders are obviously too white. You can't even differentiate between the sky and the border on the right side.

The scan may be on steroids,
    but that's still a nice looking 8.

Most 1966 Philly cards have an awful tilt to them ...

Looks like an 8 or an 8.5 to me , rough cut normal, jmo, then again maybe the SMR should be raised. Rough cut is normal for Philadelphia, might be a doctored photo. anybody want to sell me an over graded psa 8 1966 Brown for 90% of SMR. image

For those collecting the '66 Phily set, that's a tough card and it looks high-end to me. If the seller was trying to hide something he'd surely use a tiny, shot from the moon scan like many sellers use on ebay. His scan is huge. Maybe too white, but very large to see the detail. Steve's an excellent dealer too.

Edited to add, the SMR doesn't mean a thing on most tougher, low pop vintage Football stars. I've seen the Chuck Howley RC in PSA 8 from this set sell for over $300 and he's not even a HOF'er, at least not yet.

I sold a Mick Tinglehoff PSA 8 once for over $400. Toss out the smr price, it's meaningless.

Tilted borders on right and left side?? Top and bottom look ok.

That's quite common for the '66 set. It bothers some collectors more than others. If it's not too unsightly, a subtle tilt is acceptable to me, although I don't like trapezoid looking cuts. Plus I love the rough cut edges on many of the Phily cards.

the smr pricing is useless in general.....

SMR may be useless but VCP is actual recent sales so should be pretty accurate.
  • Options
Just to bad VCP is hard to use and not user friendly IMO.

Looks to me like a little shilling going on. The guy bidding it up has a 32% bid activity w/ the seller.

This guy has had some major issues getting people their cards on time or "losing" them in the mail. Not a good dealer IMO so shill bidding may not be out of the question for someone like this.

The guy's dumped 8 bids on this particular item, so that's why his bid percentage is so high with this seller.

Steve Novella is one of the best dealers around.

    Shilling auctions? No need.

He gets the prices that he does because he sells quality and
    comes through with no BS.

People will pay a premium for ease of transaction.

    Steve
    Good for you.

Where did you get this info? Toolhaus has 1 withdrawn 0 negs and 0 neuts in over 10 years of selling.

I think you have this seller confused with someone else. I have never heard a bad word about

    Steve.

I was referring to his auctions in general, not that auction in particular.

In any event those 2 are willing to pay that premium.

Steve Novella is a first rate seller, about two months ago I completed a $2500 transaction with him and it was flawless! I got my cards in about 3 days, GREAT guy and GREAT seller IMO.

Tough card from a great set. The 66 and 67 Philly set are really unusual in that there are many low pop cards. It appears the rarity is due to condition (poor cuts) than being single prints.

Not really a high end 8 if you care about centering,
but if you're just chasing numbers on a flip I guess it would do :

having owned my share of 66 phillys, centering and tilts are a killer. it is difficult to look at a vcp price without looking at the cards as there is a wide range within the grade and many cards are jsut downright brutal to get in high grade.

this brown was a beauty , went for a big premium, but probably not as much as some will think when you factor in the appeal of the card to others that are available
