2008 Sac mintages bogus.

imo.

Does anyone think that after six years of making around 3 million coins per mint that in the last year (2008) the mint would produce 15 million D's and 10 million P's? The mint site showed sold out on these coins early in December. I didn't see the ramp up to buy these anywhere. If this were the case there would have been threads on these like the "W" bullion/coins.

The numbers at the end of November were less than 2 million per mint. So to get the direct-ship-Natives out first thing January, the mint must have included 21 million Natives with 4 million Sacs in the final tally. If this were the case, when will the mint separate the dollar mintages...maybe the end of January? Currently the headliners on their webpage say 1$-GD for the Sacs and $1 Coin for the Presidential dollars. I would expect (I know, silly) that a new headliners would be 1$-ND for Native Dollars. And then I would hope to see corrections for the 2008 Sac.

I have to agree when I came back to buying coins a few months ago I was reading all the talk on here about the Sac and decided to get a roll each. I ended up getting the D mint coins from Ebay, and the P mint directly from the mint site. (they put them back on for a day in Dec)

The mintage was 1.8M up until he end of Dec and then it went through the roof. Its the Native American coins that are being included in the number. The Sac mintage is 1.8M

In recent years, once the Sacs were minted (early in the year), they were done for the year. I'd be surprised if 2008 were any different.

As I said a couple of weeks ago in another thread, the Mint used one template all year for Sacagawea golden dollars, and then in December struck Native American golden dollars. There being no separate line for Native American golden dollars, the Mint quite logically posted them with the Sacagawea golden dollars.

After all, legally and as far as the Mint is concerned, they are the same coin.

Every year the Mint posts the December sales of the upcoming year's bullion coins in the December column of the preceding year's coins. It's no big deal.

I can understand for the bullion coins. But, these Natives are dated 2009! They should be under a new headlined year. You go to the mint site under production and click on 2008 and get 2008 numbers, right(?). Where am I wrong on this?

Your assumption hit the naild square on the head...

    Total production for the 2008 D & P was 3.64 million ( 1.82 for each)

The December, 2008 bullion sales figures are for mostly 2009-dated coins.

The December, 2008 dollar production figures are for coins produced in 2008 dated 2009.

That is not the Mint report. It reports what it says it reports and nothing more.

The US mint has just put out the January mintage

it looks like the 2009's Sacs are 15.28 Phil and 13.74 Den

if you subtract the 1.8m for the 2008's and move the remainder over to the January 2009 totals

    just a thought ??
