32 Coin Olympic Set (1995-1996) Question

Remember these sets. I ws going through my collection and found that I have one (had forgotten about it).
I'm thinking of having all 32 coins graded by PCGS.

Should I do this or keep them raw in their wooden box.

I'd love to own one of these sets. I have a 16 piece Proof set in the box and think it is kind of cool despite the fact at the time it was too many coins.

Unless you get a few MS-70 graded coins in the right places, it might not be worth your financial while. As a collector of modern coins, I don't care for them in slabs at all. I refuse to buy slabbed modern commemorative coins because they do nothing for me.

BTW you must be pretty well off if you can forget about $5,000+ set of coins!

I have one of the 16 piece proof sets also. I would leave them right where they are. But, if you do have them graded please don't throw away the box. I would be happy to pay the shipping for the empty box to have a new home.

I think the buy price when issued was around $2400 for the set. The wooden box took for ever for the Mint to send it, but worth the wait - It is a nice dispay case.

I'd keep them raw in the box as they look much better displayed that way.

I'd keep them in their box too. I sent my coins in and didn't get very good grades. I wish I had just bought some already graded with the grades I wanted and kept my others in their original box. I did however sell my empty box & trays for $75.00.

Frankly I wish you'd send the coins in to make my original 32 coin set worth a tad more.

More seriously, I agree with the general assessment to keep them as is. I forget how many 32 coin sets were sold, but it wasn't very many. Although these sets can be reassembled, it strikes me as easier to keep the coins as is. If you want slabbed examples of the coins, I'd buy them separately.

I had bought the 32 coin set and thought it looked great in the cherrywood case. I had to sell it when I moved as there were just too many things to move. I did not have the coins graded since they looked impressive in the case.

Leave 'em as they are. More impressive displayed in the original presentation case, than in tombs stacked up with a case full of empty capsules. Though, on the other hand, you COULD send 'em all in, crack out the 69's, put 'em back in the capsules, and buy some raw ones to replace the 70's. Eh, do what ya wanna do, but I'd leave 'em be.

Thanks for all your helpful comments. I think I will keep it as it. I was toying with the
idea that some of the gold may hit the 70 grade.
