Todays rips, the last of my packs (Now ripping 82 Fleer BB) Lots of scans!

Well these are the last of my rack packs I bought last year when I had to sell my Harley.

The first rips are 2 1982 rack packs. I'm only posting the stars cards, although the commons are sharp and centered. Also going to rip some of my last early 80's Fleer.....81 and 82.

My question: I got to Yaz cards and I thought they had a blem but I think it must have been a problem with the printing plate. Notice how both cards have the same round blem in the top right and the same marks in the "IN" letters of In Action. Does this sound correct?

  • My guess would be the blemishes were exclusive to that particular run and is not present throughout the entire print run.

Bill, I just added larger scans above of the two cards. I wasn't planning on subbing those two cards, but how would the PSA grade them if I did?
I shoud add, Does the PSA deduct for a printrun problem like those?

    Thanks

I know I liked Yaz as a kid, but I got more than my quota of Yaz's for the day. lol

  • I would love to bust a box of clean centered 1982 Topps. I don't recall ever opening any that were centered that well.

You are right Bill. I ripped a fair amount of 78, 79, 80, 82, 83, 84 last year and these seem to be the better centered cards I got.

I'll post some more 82's later today. Now I'm going to go for some 83's. Can I please get a Cal or Gwynn????
  • bman90278bman90278 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭
I've opened part of the rack pack...Cut one section at a time. I did get a really nice Ryan for my collection and the cards are looking nice centered. It must be my day for decent centering.

    image
  • I busted a cello box and 3 wax boxes in November. The best Ryan I pulled was centered 75/25 T/B. Did get a Gwynn that is STILL sitting at PSA right now.

I'd love your opinion on this one Bill. I'm not as good as you and Matt & some of the others at grading my own cards. Scan of Ryan coming.

Nice stuff, though I think I like 82s better than 83s. There is a huge upgrade in the photography/images from 82 to 83, but I think the main image is too small on the 83s due to the extra picture and player/team name, position and team name. JMO.
  • PSA 9 on Ryan.

Awesome centering on the 82s and 83s. Now I want to rip some.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • The Ryan would probably be a 9 if the corners are sharp. L/R centering may be ugly but not bad enough to make it an 8 since the T/B appears to be 50/50.

I'm glad to insiration to someone. I actually had planned on saving all of these rack packs for my son so we could rip together....Now that I'm out of work and have no money I've managed to slowly go through all of my unopened stuff.

Bill, we already did this dance. You didn't respond, so for now I am not selling them. I am happy opening one every so often and occasionally giving one away.
I sent one to Matt along with some unopened 1982 fleer wax, but he never responded if he opened them or not.
I think I will open one

    Bill -

PM me your address. I probably have it, but don't feel like searching.

I'll get an 82' out to you this week. I think I have a few grocery racks and cello's.

    Call it a recession give-away.

Well these are the last cards worth showing of the 83's. Some of the cards not shown have printing blems I would say.

    These cards look good.

That finished up the first pack. These cards won't get high grades, but they were greats from my childhood which makes these keepers.

Now into pack #2. In the first scan of cards I got a Jim Anderson card, but it's cool for me. My brother grew up and played high school ball with his younger brother Doug and Jim went to a few of my little league practices when he was on the Angels. So that's cool. I can show my son one day.

Bman, sorry you got no big stars, but you know what's even worse? 1982 Phillies batting leader was Bo Diaz.

Here is the last of the second pack. HOF Murray way O/C but a very nice Pete La_ock card.

Thanks, but the Mark Fidrych card is cool...I did a book report on him back in grade school. ...that was back when the Bird was a great rookie. And like I said, my brother went to school with Jim Anderson's brother Doug and Jim went to a few of my baseball practices when I was a kid. So that will be some stories for my son. Also, my father and I met Lee Lacy when I was a kid when he was on the Dodgers....good stuff I guess.

Bman thanks for sharing. Those rips bring back memories as a kid for me. I remember picking up a box of 83 Topps for $10. Thanks again.

Very glad to share them. They bring back great memories for me too as that was towards the end of when I was collecting as a kid before I quit for many many years.

I believe I have a couple more 81 and 82 Fleer packs left.

It looks like I'm not doing well on this pack either.. Got a Goose, but it's way OC. The Krukow and Belanger look good. I don't think I've noticed it on my other fleer cards, but these have a rough cut, very similar to some of my OPC's.

Nothing great, but I have no problem adding another Mota card to my collection as he was a Dodgers great. The Ramsey and Alexander card look very good too.
