It was bound to happen one day, I suppose

I've had nothing but good experiences buying on eBay... until I went to the post office today.

    Ouch. That's not good.

I was just trolling on eBay a few minutes ago but I haven't bought anything on there in over a year. Your experience is a good example of why.

On the plus side... 1) I didn't spend a whole lot of money and 2) I paid through PayPal.

Seven or eight bucks, I think. It would be a smokin' good price for the coin as pictured. For the one I got, not so much.

    Here's the seller: pufferman2008

Interestingly enough, the exact same coin (well, the picture is the same, anyway) is back up for auction again.

Due to the evidence you have presented, I have decided to deviate from my usual MO and have "asked seller a question" and asked him why he is selling what he already sold (same photo...not saying "stock photo" on something like that...which would be hard anyway since it isn't a common modern)

I asked him the same question and received this answer:

i sent you that coin you won which coin is wrong and why is it wrong?
    please explain?

I replied, with pictures this time. I'm wondering what he'll have to say to that.

I had a seller do this to me a while back. He had a 1956 proof type 1 pictured for a BIN $25. I bought it because it was a very nice coin with light cameo. The next day he has the same picture up on another auction. When I saw this I wrote and asked him if I was getting the coin he had pictured. No response. Of course when I got it, it was a type 2. I would have kept it because it was a nice DDR but it was covered in hairlines on both sides. He accepted my return and refunded my shipping but I told him how upset I was and how deceptive I thought he was being.

A week later I got a message from another Ebayer asking me if I had any problems with this seller. He had bought something around the same time I did from this guy and the same thing happened to him.

I'll try to find this seller's ID and post it when I do.

    Edit: seller's Id is jjspds

Probably doing it purposely to prey on those that know of the different varieties but don't know the small differences of the varieties. Gotta watch that with '56 Franklins. The 1970-S small date Cent is a classic scam vehicle for this also.

    Ouch!

A simple email to the seller stating that the coin you received is not the coin pictured in the auction and that you are returning the coin for a refund, should resolve your situation.

Perhaps it was just a little friction in the envelope??
I would contact the buyer right away and advise him of the "error" he made in shipment, then if it isn't resolved in a week, start the PayPal process.

Im a tad confused, which is par for the course. My question is the pictures you show here and the picture in the
auction do not look alike. Am I missing something? I agree what he sent does not look like his auction either.

But then again neither do the coins you show above.

    Sorry this happened to you.

    Good for you.

I know it's absolutely misleading...but if it doesn't specifically state "the coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive" I either stay away or ask the seller for clarification. A lot of good seller's just omit that by accident, but the scammers do it intentionally.

Perhaps the seller accidentally shipped the wrong coin???? I've seen that happen before with much much more expensive coins...

It would be just as easy to show a picture of a slab you don't have as a raw coin, if one were so inclined.

yaha, you really should lay off the medication while you post.

As for those that have something to contribute to the thread, or are interested, I got a reply from the seller this morning stating he has "20 of these to sell".....I "encouraged" him to use individual pictures of each one for sale rather than a stock photo as he was causing problems and could cause more.

Sorry, yaha, that I tried to be constructive rather than just whining and ranting and buying from TV hypesters image
