"I know he has a young child with medical problems"

glad someone pointed that out. I don't think it was his son, but his wife's son or something to that affect. I'm glad he has his foundation to help kids especially those that involve his stepson or whatever the relationship there is, but a lot of players who don't have children with special needs or even children at all donate time and money to charitable purposes. The guy signed a 7y/$100m contract..I'd hope he donates at least a 10th of that to charity or whatever he makes off of endorsements/auto's...but he shouldn't be awarded sainthood for it like these Cardinal honks are essentially proposing. He's doing exactly what a lot of other athletes with much lower exposure/profiles/wallets do all the time, and many who donate to causes that do not directly affect their families. Patrick Kane of the Blackhawks just donated money and time to a children's charity in Calgary when he is 20 years old with no kids and he isn't Canadian. He's from Buffalo and is nearly a kid himself. I'm not going to"flame" Pujols, I do think he is a bit of a fraud especially cracking on Tom Glavine the head of the his union and a future HOFer and his defending Bonds and his shady HGHing JuCo trainer, but let's see what happens with him when his STL contract expires after 2011. We all know STL doesn't like to pay anybody and I'm skeptical that he'll take another hometown discount if he's still playing at a high level. If he's still an elite player at that point and he takes a below market contract to remain in STL then perhaps I'll come around on AP...then again an HGH test will be in place by 2011 so it might be a mute pointimage
  • So to admire and appreciate a player for what he stands for must be ~player worship~, and forbid anyone give the guy credit for being as good of a player as he is, because ~it has to be because of HGH~ <<eyes roll>>

I guess there will always be those who are too animosity filled or jealous, to appreciate a great player/person for the stand that he has taken in his life, to serve God, and help others who are in need. I guess I could have expected as much, because I see many of those on this forum that unjustly accuse/criticize Albert Pujols, have many more flaws that they fail to address; such as being nightly boozers, drug users, habitual gamblers, mean-spirited who love to see others in hurt/misery/failure, ect. But..... they sure are some of the first guys in line to take pot shots at a good guy who does not drink, do drugs, is a family man, and so loves God to the point that he has taken a stand in his life to help others who are less fortunate. Is Albert a perfect person? Not at all, and I would never make that arguement for any human on this earth. Imagine if all of us put in half the effort that an Albert Pujols does? The world would be a better place, that's for sure.

I'm done with the topic, because you can't win a debate with non-believers who want to falsely accuse, hate, and judge the guy on everything under the sun. God will have the last say, and at this point, I can say it appears that Albert Pujols is storing his treasures up in Heaven, with his good deeds of helping others, with what God has blessed him with.

I hope Pujols is a genuinely great person; I hope any person that is admired by another deserves said admiration, but, the truth is, we can never truly know.

I just like having all you Pujols game worn jock strap purchasers on these boards because you guys make every one of these threads fun. Of all players you fanatics are the most defensive. I wonder why.

    << <i>Your #1 - That should be commended.

Your #2 - I don't buy for a second that BS reason about the forgeries.

Your #3 - Finally we agree, but more of that should be done. >>

While I do believe that Pujols won't sign the rookie cards because of his Upper Deck contract, I agree with you that the "forgery" reasoning for the Upper Deck contract is total BS. If he were truly concerned about eliminating the forgery market, his autographed items wouldn't be so overpriced on his site. $749.99 for a framed 8x10? $599 for a helmet? Come on. Even if that money is going straight to his foundation, it still IS all about the money in this area.

True. How many framed 8x10's can he sell at $749.99? Imagine how many more would sell at 1/3 of the price...which is still too expensive, IMO. He'd end up getting substantially more money for his foundation in the long run if he lowered his prices. Of course, that would mean he'd have to do more work (signing, etc.).

If he was being greedy for his charity he would drop the cash for the event himself and allow his fans to give what they can afford, especially in this economy.

  • Someone just give a kid the card to get signed. Wouldn't Albert have to sign it if a kid handed it to him?
